This offense is built perfectly for a speed back. As we all know, Murray was barely touched until he got to the second level. It was there where he got caught from behind. he wasn't blasting through the line.

These quick guys in space will be deadly. I'm all for carrying 4 RB's. Randle, McFadden, Dunbar, ?

Imagine a fresh speedster in the 4th Quarter after our OL has mauled the DL the entire game............

Hard to have 4 rb's active if they don't contribute on special teams
I think if a guy is added to the 3 or replace one of the 3 then he has got to bring something to special teams
That's the best way for any non starter to get on the field in the nfl
a guy who may not be as good at his position is going to make a roster faster than a guy slightly better if he can be a solid special teams player
So much of building a roster is about the game day roster, not the 53 best players at their position

Maybe. I think I'd rather have diesel truck-type back coming in to close off games in the 4th.

Does not sound like Randle is a stoudt blocker on LB blitz ...caught the blurb that Wilson rocked him into the QB's lap.......what would a RoMac caliber LB do?

Picking up the blitz is not about being a super strong blocker
The most important thing is blocking the right guy. He doesn't have to be a great blocker just do the best you can and pick up the right guy. Romo is still mobile enough to get away from guys but you can't let him take blindside shots and you have to slow down blitzes up the middle

Even the best blocking RBs will get pushed back in Pass Pro at times. The key is to block the right defender and to square him up for him to go through you and not around you. If the defender is running over the RB, he is not getting a clean shot at the QB.

True but the RB getting shoved into the QB lap can alter the pass. Things like that can happen time to time but what you look for is consistency, the RB who is going to get it done the vast majority of the time.

Neither of them are noted blockers. Seastrunk is a much better pure runner. He is a guy that as a runner is capable of taking a workhorse type workload and sustain. Dunbar is limited in what he can do as a runner. However Seastrunk offers very little as a receiver whereas is a guy who can catch passes out of the backfield and also line up in the slot. Given that I think Seastrunk will have a very hard time beating Dunbar out and his best chance to make the roster is them being forced to carry 4 HBs

There was a report about Dunbar stoning rushers in Saturday's practice multiple times.

They need McFadden healthy. He is one of the best Pass Blocking RBs that I've seen. He is better than Murray in that area.

I agree, out of all the RB we currently have McFadden is the most complete in terms of blocking, rushing and receiving.

I want to see Gus Johnson in pre-season games too. Let's see if he can build momentum behind this line.

Can't tell you how many times people have argued against that. I got it from a source very close to the player and he never got over 185 until later in his career.

He was light, but he was lightning fast. The reason I'm a Cowboys fan to this day. :)

I'd be very tempted to carry an extra RB with Lache as my return guy and home run threat.

You may have him inactive some weeks for his body to rest.

Not sure why people think that Dunbar and 'Lache' Seastrunck can't be a competitive RB. One is 5-9 and 200+ and the other is 5-8 and 195+. Emmitt played at 208. Granted he was built differently with huge legs but he wasn't that fast either. The others have more of a sprinter/RB lower body that translates more into speed. But they aren't that different in build. Both of them are fast and hit the hole well. They might not be able to carry the ball 15+ times a game (although they may) but they offer some versatility and depth IMO. Dorsett was 5-10 (with light gravity) and weighed 195 near the end. He played substantially less on entry into the league.

If you can break arm tackles in this league, have good balance and vision, catch the ball, and block then generally there is a place to play. It's the rest of the things that make a very good or better RB.

Well said my friend, Dorsett never needed to be heavy when he was a rookie I think he weighed 185 lbs. Also a guy named Duane Thomas was great back in the early 70's for the Cowboys and he was not a big back and he was a major reason we won our 1st Super Bowl.

They're all mysteries. And we have some teasers as well. Lot's of hope light on past data.

I watched the video on Seastrunk and he looked fast, had good vision and cutting, and played like a beast. I think Seastrunk has a good shot at making this team !

I didn't watch him
Much in college so not sure about his return ability
If he can be a return guy that's a good way to make a roster but there is more to being a return guy than just being fast
Did he do returns in college?

Had a discussion about Seastrunk during the offseason and felt he could be a wildcard. He's got speed reportedly has run a 4.34 40 and did show flashes in preseason with Washington last summer which makes him intriguing. He didn't get an opportunity with Washington having Alfred Morris so the Cowboys could get lucky here we'll have to see. Seastrunk has a chance to stick looking forward to seeing what he does in preseason.

Not sure he's a great blocker period look at this poor attempt at a block. This is how you lose your QB.

Murray ranked as one of the worst pass protectors out there.

He improved as a blocker over the years not saying he's great but he was more than adequate or it would have been a major issue with him. His ranking wasn't good last season but he ranked 9th the previous season. I'm sure him having to take on such a big workload last season affected his blocking.

Hearing from multiple fronts that Seastrunk is looking very quick and explosive in practice.

That would be a nice surprise. He was a terrific back at Baylor and one of the most highly recruited high school kids in the country. Went to Oregon before Baylor.

Like to see this guy come out of camp be our surprise player and be a game breaker.
