Garrard to be named the starter. Just seen on NFL Live. Anyone still think we made a mistake taking Newman?

I'll admit culpability here. I wanted Leftwich and fervently believed he would become a better quarterback than Carson Palmer.

Dumb is me.

I remember the predraft debate. I can't explain it, but I never thought Leftwich had IT. Since TNew is a homey he was my choice all along.

i think it's silly to go and compare it like what happened in one place could happen in another.

what if troy were a bengal?
young did how well in tampa again?

so people thought leftwich could have been a good cowboys qb - maybe he could have been. maybe he still could be.

some people gotta go a long way back to reach just for a self-serving pat on the back.

I argued with people left and right about it too...I loved the T-New pick and honestly never thought Leftwich was worth a top-10 pick

Carson Palmer is the only player I'd have rather had in that draft over T-New

Leftwich is never going to be a "good" QB...he's an average player at best

The name is pronounced Byron Sandwich, and this one was impossible to see coming. Who could have known a fat, immobile QB wouldn't work out in the NFL?

ESPNews reports David Garrard will be the Jaguars' starting QB this season, instead of Byron Leftwich.

quite possible.

but that doesn't change the fact that people will act differntly in different situations. a *better* situation and maybe he'd have done more. like i said, young was in tampa how long? 2 years. then sat behind montana for 4.

maybe sitting behind montana helped young and could have also have helped another qb.

yes i could well be wrong, but that doesn't make everyone else *right*. just speculation.

No, you were not dumb. Just wrong in this case.

Dumb would be campaigning to pick an obviously inferior player over Newman who was a highly prized prospect.

Posters love to puff out their chests when they get one right and declare how they KNEW it. Not true, they suspected it. They've also been wrong many, many times if they're honest.

The draft and even many of the most highly prized prospects is/are not an exact science. Far from it. Need we compile the list of Mandarich's etc?

I heard Peter King on Espn Radio raving about how leftwich was now 239 pounds and how he was going to have a career year...

Didnt see that one coming...

The Vikings will sign him anyway once T. Jackson goes 0-5 and AD breaks his Collarbone after being ran 35 times a game.

Well said.

I could never figure out what all the fuss was about with him. Hated Quincy too. However I did like both Chad and Drew Henson, so I could probably throw a dart and be just as successful picking quarterbacks. Of course, even at 50% I'm already over qualified to be the GM of the Skins.

Atlanta should trade for him. They need a big name to draw the fans and Harrington isn't gonna do that.

Edit: And then they might not take #1 in the draft and leave it for Cleveland.

I remember the debates being mostly over Newman and Terrell Suggs. There were some that liked Leftwich, but it seemed to center around the other two guys. I liked both defensive guys over Lefttwich and gave Newman the slight edge over Suggs. I did like Leftwich. I was mostly concerned with his durability and he has some problems along those lines. He was growing as a QB and had a decent short season in 2005. He took a big step backwards last year. I am not impressed with the receivers in Jacksonville.

What a waste of 2 first round picks...

Trade Leftwich within the division? Doubt that happens.
