We'll get around to contacting FAs next weekend.

The Cowboys, if they truly are all in, should be somewhat aggressive this offseason especially in FA. But I suspect it's business as usual where they let the market pluck off players they like, they churn through the leftovers and then try to claim these were the guys they wanted all along.

For once, I'd like to see a little bit of desperation out of Jerry. Not stupid desperation but rather trying hard to not just band aid one clear need but actually fix it with a real solution.
It should be illegal to call and talk to free agents when you have no money.

An agents gets 2 calls at the same time, which one you answering? The team with cap space or the team with no space?

NFL: Legal tampering starts tomorrow

The Jones: Let's take out the yacht for a week or two!
He did the draft from his big boat, he can do FA as well. He does not need to be at a face to face meeting for it all.

:lmao: At all the melt downs over that.

They would not be a very good agent if they did it that way.
A good agent still listens to all offers or at least a chance to talk.

What if one owner said, we are about to clear up $20 million, so give us a few hours. The agent presents that to the player, then decide.

Nothing is going to happen. The Cowboys made a move to get under the cap. They told Gallup to seek a trade and meant with Tyron/Tyler’s agents at the combine to tell them they can’t afford them. The Cowboys got two comp picks and will probably trade down to get the missing 4th. The Cowboys are going all in just not like San Francisco, Eagles or Rams. Plus it’s Jones family yacht trip time. Jerry and Stephen have more important things to do.

Just how they roll to claim they don't have space to sign free agents.
Restructure when needed
They’ll save 9 mill by releasing Gallup or trading him. They can restructure both Diggs and Dak’s contract to same many more millions. FA doesn’t start until March 13th. This new “I WANT IT NOW!!!!” Generation is really a PITA.

Trading Gallup would save us money and we wouldn't have to pay for him next year. Releasing him would open up some money this year, assuming you mean as a June 1st cut, but we'd be paying that back next year.

Yes, June 1st cut saves the team ~$9m. If he can’t find a trade partner, he’ll be designated a June 1st cap by the 13th. They’ll restructure a couple other contracts as well. Dak’s and Diggs.

I feel like the FO philosophy is to draft decent/solid/great players every year then hire bandaids for competition.

They draft well but maybe not well enough. They also stick with lesser players too often, I think, which hurts.

I also believe they're too concerned with the cap. Sure, sometimes you need more space for comfort and planning ahead but you can recover from a short stint of "Cap Hell", if there is such a thing.

why do they call it "legal tampering"? If you're tampering it's illegal...if you're not tampering, you're just talking.

tamper: interfere with (something) in order to cause damage or make unauthorized alterations

If they couldn't afford Tyler they won't even be able to field a team next season lol.

Diggs would be a restructure. Dak too, but by way of an extension. Same goes for Lamb.

I'm not sure they release Gallup if he doesn't find a trade partner. If they just did the above, they'd have more than enough cap space to keep him for 1 more year, and do what they normally do in the offseason. Do you foresee any splurging in the Cowboys future? I don't.

Rich Eisen, "The rumor I heard from multiple people at the Combine is his definition of all-in is to make Dak play out his walk year and not extend him at all, and just eat the cap hit," Eisen said. "And the free agents that they might go get aren't the big-name guys that you think because they won't be able to afford 'em."
