POrter is too limited now. Davis is not as good a tackle as Columbo - that is clear. So NO WAY is he first choice to replace him. MOre likely McQ. Davis is a guard here and that is that.

LMAO!

I hope you're right, but I will be the first person to bump this thread up if Davis ends up being our RT next season.

"That is that". :lmao2:

A 5 year, 25 million dollar deal with a 12 million signing bonus would work out to a first year cap hit of between 3.0 and 3.25 million...

Given the prices we're likely to be seeing on this market, that's really not outrageous... particularly not for a starter...
THANK YOU sb! Man, people are just waiting to spit acid on this potential deal without really knowing all the facts. BTW, IF that's what Davis is asking for, wonder what Colombo was asking for considering he had a "better" year than Davis.....

Well Jerry better open up the check book. Dockery and Steinbach signed with teams. That leaves Davis and Diehlman as the top 2 guards available.

Any word on the contract details? Actually, if the whole deal works out it's not a bad signing. Smoot was asking for Champ Bailey money when he bailed to Minny and now (two seasons later) you might have the guy at his actual market value.

When I first heard of the Skins considering signing Smoot I thought it was the most hilarious thing in the world. But, if the deal is actually more proportionate to what Smoot is worth and not what Smoot THINKS he is worth then it's a smart move.

If Dielman and Davis are going to get the same type of money we better dang well consider Dielman first!!!

Ala Dockery and Stienbach...

joey porter is one person I would not want to see in a dallas uni next year

I can understand why... not to worry, I think the possibility of that happening is remote at best...

I got backup for my argument in the numbers that Steinbach and Dockery got... especially Dockery, if he got 7 mil a year, then Davis is certainly worth 4.8 million a year...

silverbear, I thought you took the players salary ($5 mil a year) and then prorated the signing bonus across the years (so about $2.5 mil a year) and added them together to make the single year cap hit. That makes the hit about $7+ mil by my math. What did I do wrong?

Well I hope your right and he's wrong...because we could get Colombo who's actually played for us and pretty good for a lot cheaper at tackle.

We better hope so, me thinks it was a very very bad idea not to get Columbo signed before FA...Plus its not guarenteed that he will sign here now.

Mark my words, Philly may make a run on him we could be ****.

If the Cowboys REALLY wanted him...it was a awful mistake not to sign him before FA. Did they low ball him?

His price is only going to go up.

Columbo would be a tough guy to know....value wise. He played his way into a nice contract. Columbo was a better player than Dockery, and he got paid tons. Logic would say that Columbo deserves a comparable deal.

But look into Columbo's past.

His rookie year was cut short by a devestating injury. He didn't see the field for years. Signing him to a big contract would be a gamble (bigger than normal...all players are gambles) due to his injury history.

Honestly though...he was serviceable, nothing more. After Tucker and Pettiti the last couple years he looked great, but there is no reason to think we could not get another guy to do the same thing...maybe even McQuistan.

I blame Peter King for the Columbo-mania...

That's been the Cowboys problem though through the years...Thinking they can get a guy to replace a player that played good for them.

Colombo should be resigned.

if dockery did actually get 7 years 49 million ... id sign leanord davis to a 5 year 25 million dollar deal with a 12 million signing bonus SO fast your head would spin.... thats not that much.. and i think Davis is BETTER than dockery.

Exactly. Did we ever determine how much Dockery really got? If it was really 16 million like the NFL Network supposedly said, 12 million is actually reasonable.
