As a car stereo expert allow me to correct many here on a common misconception.
"Power" and "watts" and terms like "maximum and peak", etc. are fancy ways of selling you something that sounds ridiculously impressive when in fact it is junk.

If you have a 500+ watt amp, odds are, it sucks because you would not be able to afford a true quality amplifier of that magnitude.

Clean sound is more important than power. A clean, high quality amplifier of 100-200 watts performs better and sounds louder than a 500 watt piece of crap. Ever noticed that a 100 watt amplifier made by a highly respected brand name costs the same as a 14,000 watt amp from K-Mart? This is why. Higher quality amplifiers also run cooler and are stable to lower ohm loads which can produce more power and last much longer w/o overheating or distorting, etc.

So many people, including filthy rich athletes are more concerned with bigger, flashier, etc. products and the ability to tell their admirers that they have 200,000 watts of power that they don't spend their money wisely on things like stereos. In fact, they could have the nicest, cleanest and loudest system on the block if they knew what they were doing and how to spend wisely. And they wouldn't need an Escalade to fit 10 15" woofers in the back to achieve it.

The irony is, when someone tells me they have 1000 watts of power... it is intended to impress. But in fact, it has the exact opposite result on me... I laugh at their foolishness.

Who are you addressing Spectre?

sounds like he's just lobbing out some general knowlege and i agree with the vast bulk of it.

my sub amp is around 200w, and my other amp is around 75-100w a channel x4. adding up it's not that "amazing" but in sound, it's clean and has "balls" so to speak.

No. As long as we agree Dodge and Chevy is the way to go, we can set this aside.

My father has worked for all three companies, and you can trust that the OTHER american company is... below par. way below.

Foreign cars are the only way to go. American cars suck. Made by lazy, not-too-smart low-skilled u.s. workers who want to make CEO wages .

Sadly, Toyota makes the most "American" of all the trucks. The so-called American truck makers get many parts from overseas.

The Toyota Tundra is the only pickup truck in America that is 100% American made in Indiana....sad, but that's what I read a few years ago.

Toyota started producing the new Texas Tundra right here in San Antonio about 3 months ago.

As it turns out, there are more foreign automakers producing foreign cars in the USA than there are US automakers making domestic cars in the US. That is the sad reality.

So now, when talking about foreign cars, you are really talking about Chevy, Ford and Dodge.

That is what a "system" is all about. If it sounds good TO YOU and suits your goals for what you want in your system... that's the only thing that matters.

I've got a Kenwood Headunit, Focal components up front, a 10" sub, and 2 Phoenix Gold amplifiers... my system is close the way I want it to sound and fits my budget.

Generally speaking what he threw out is exactly right. Peak watts are just a selling ploy to grab the attention of customers that have a lack of knowledge. But just because 1 amp is more expensive than another DOES NOT always make it a better amp.

I've had two civics that I treat like total garbage- change the oil every 7,500 or whenever I feel like it maybe had them tuned up two or three times each. One had 215K on it when I gave it to my in-laws- still runs like brand new- solid as a rock- no rattles, no problems whatsoever. The other has 172,000 on it- same thing. I can't tell one bit of difference in it than when it was brand new. I have a new Accord that I expect will still be running mid-century for the lucky person that has it at that point.

I had my 1992 Toyota Celica GT for 10 years and had 220,000 miles on it when I sold it to a college student for $1000. I never had a problem with the car, I never got stalled, never had to stop on the side of the road. I told the buyer that I never changed the oil and oil filter, and that he might want to consider it.

At least I was honest.

The thing ran like a charm, I always topped the oil off and checked the fluids. Nothing more. Still got 30 miles per gallon when I sold it.

The amp on the right is a Crossfire VR1000D

Tested output of 1332 watts RMS x 1 @ 1ohm @ 14.4volts.

I'm not sure what kind of subs those are but he's putting upwards of 450 watts RMS to each one of his subs (assuming he's using only the 1 VR1000D to power 3 subs and has them wired for a 1 ohm load on the amp).

these subs i'm looking at are 2400RMS, pure SPL comp subs, ill find the link for you.

they are the 2400 Seiries, they have a 1600rms and  3200 RMS systems

:lmao2: Do that with an American, Korean or European car from the same time period and you might make 22,000 miles. Do it with one from today and it might make it to 62k. My brother had an 81 Corolla with 350,000 miles on it when he decided to retire it. No problems at all.
