Yeah. Fargo grossed 60 mil...that is nothing to sneeze at. Even moreso, everyone that watches movies on the planet had at least heard of it. I mean it wan't an obscure Oscar movie that only grossed 5 mil or so.
Having said that, it's no big deal if someone wants to mention it. I was just giving a fellow CBZer some ribbing.....and Fargo really was a good movie.

I watch a great deal of movies and it is odd but I finally saw fargo just this past weekend. Can not believe I had not watched it prior to that.

I have to say it was ok but it was hard to live up to the hype after you hear about it being so great for so many years.

Please the accent that was funny at first just became way too annoying after a bit and ruined it for me. Same with Brad Pitt's character in Inglorious Basterds although with that one at least he was the only one with an annoying accent.

I liked a show called The Event. It only lasted one season and then gone but I liked it.

I liked the Night Stalker. Both the original and the remake were pretty short lived.

I liked Alcatraz. I think that could have gone in a lot of interesting directions. I think it's gone now.

There was a show called Campus Ladies that came out on Oxygen of all places. It was funny but nobody ever watched it so.........

There was a show called Dead Like Me that I loved but it was gone in two seasons.

Rubicon was a show about an intelligence firm who analyzed intelligence for ABC agencies. It was quality television IMO but I guess nobody watched it. That show is better then 95% of the TV out there right now IMO.

I liked BSG but there was a show called Caprica that I thought was pretty good. I started to really like it but it too was cancelled.

Also, I liked a show called the deep end. It was only on for about 6 episodes but I like Addy Fisher so maybe that's why I liked it.

Alcatraz and Rubicon had great potential, but Rubicon was too cerebral for the average viewer. alcatraz was the example of a network pulling the plug to soon and not placing the show in an advantageous time slot.

Dead Like Me has a following and was slickly writtten and directed. A friend of mine said his wife found it "disturbing" and that may have been the problem. Dealing with death and humor mixed is a challenge.

that is the biggest problem with great movies is the hype they get. When I first watched it I hadn't heard much about it and thought it was great. Once you have that expectation you are like ok impress me movie and after that it is just hard to get past that expectation and let yourself get sucked in and enjoy it.

as for the accent it is annoying but it isn't over the top because that really is what they sound like just don't go tell them that because they get all pissed about it don' ya know?

I thought is was good or very good...but also agree it was overhyped (hence, not under the radr by any means) and not "great".

Miller's Crossing.
The Man Who Wasn't There.

A couple of Coen Bros movies that don't seem to register much on the radar. I thought both were great, but MC is better.

'I Shouldn't Be Alive'

Have you ever watched "I Survived"? It's on Bio channel and similar format as ISBA.

Unreal how depraved some ppl can be, and how equally strong others can.

Also one of my all time favorites 'Pan's Labyrinth' seems a little underrated. I remember it not even showing at the main theaters here.

Never followed up to see how it fared at the box office, but I thought Pan's Labyrinth was a very well done, upper-tier quality movie. Learned to appreciate Guillermo del Toro's sense of story telling and direction, then and there.

If you liked Pan's Labyrinth you might like another film (subtitles) he did called...The Devil's Backbone.

Not quite as good as pan but not too bad.

The French two part film, Mesrine: Killer Instinct and Mesrine: Public Enemy Number Oneo, was one of the best gangster flix I've seen and are based on a true story. It is subtitled, though.

AFAIK, no one picked up Terra Nova. I liked the plot and the show was done well. Of course I'm a scifi fan so... I'm still mad about Stargate Universe. Great character development and plot. Well done. I guess people would rather watch Idol.

Vincent Cassel was great in the part of Jacques Mesrine. I can handle subtitles if a movie is good enough to watch. This two part movie really was, IMO. But I like gangster genre movies, in general, which is what drew me to watch.

For those who have Netflix, both are in their programming rotation right now.

Widely considered to be a great movie, but because of it's age may not be very well known...

Seven Samurai (1954)

from Wikipedia:
Seven Samurai[1] (七人の侍 Shichinin no Samurai?) is a 1954 Japanese adventure drama film co-written, edited, and directed by Akira Kurosawa. The film takes place in 1587 during the Warring States Period of Japan. It follows the story of a village of farmers that hire seven masterless samurai (ronin) to combat bandits who will return after the harvest to steal their crops.
Seven Samurai is described as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made,[2] and is one of a select few Japanese films to become widely known in the West for an extended period of time. It is the subject of both popular and critical acclaim; it was voted onto Sight & Sound's list of the ten greatest films of all time in 1982, and to the directors' top ten films in the 1992 and 2002 polls.[3]

A lot of the shows and movies I can think of have already been mentioned. Here is one movie I liked but is virtually unknown.

Stargate Universe was interesting to me, but I disliked it more that they cancelled Stargate Atlantis.

I mentioned SGU earlier, too... because it only had a short run (2-seasons I think) + about the time I was into the story and characters, the series was cancelled. But Stargate Atlantis was definitely my favorite of the SG series offerings.

This is a cool movie. I caught it on cable once and enjoyed. I'd never even heard of it, and you're the first person I've heard seen mention.
