I am just speculating, but I wonder how much scrutiny on the steriods issue has affected Roy. A guy doesn't just go from a very physical player to a cream puff unless a) he is getting old, b) he just doesn't care, c) he is not in the same condition.

What ever the cause, our secondary will not be great as long as he continues to play poor in coverage and weak in run support.

Signing Hamlin is crucial right now.

I think its b)

The mindset is not there. Something happened. A life epiphany where "its only a game" was taken to heart.... in essence giving his heart to something else....

We're not an elite team and that's how it pans out when you're bunched in with several other teams.

To be elite, we need to seperate ourselves talent & coaching wise.

We have separated ourselves talent-wise.

Also, to drive the point home further, it is even more devasting when you roll into town with one of the League's more healthier clubs, facing off against a patch-work team filled with loan officers, practice squad players and tour guides and can't even show enough heart to take the fight to them.

One of my biggest issues right now with Roy is the fact that sometimes he just doesn't seem to care. Take the horse-collar stuff for example. The guy knows it's a penalty, yet he cannot even force himself to *not* use it?

I'm a Texas native and spent 30+ years living in Texas. The first thing I did when I moved to New York, I force myself to stop saying "Fixin", "Thee-Ater" (Theater), and "Ya'll". Why? Not because I'm embarrassed, but because the rest of the world is trained into believing in stereotypes. Southern lingo means you're stupid. Considering what I do for a living, I cannot afford for a potential client to use ignorance to judge me.

Roy Williams cannot afford to use a horse-collar tackle because it negatively effects the team, but he doesn't care enough to ensure that doesn't happen.

so who do we get to replace him after we eat the cost of dropping him? does anyone know what his cap hit would be in the coming years to do what the fans clamor for on a multi-time daily basis?

My thought was to draft Reggie Smith for CB. (hopefully he doesn't require a year to be ready) Move Henry to FS and resign Hamlin for SS. Of course, we still have Watkins for FS (he is playing a lot better) and Henry can play CB until Reggie Smith is ready. Reggie can play the slot with Reeves gone.

Or if you left Adams go and let Free or McQuistan take over at LT that frees up around $7M in cash. Maybe you could pick up Samuel out of New England, but I find that questionable.

it could be sheer economics for flo. we'll have to see. i know he gets dogged for his false starts, but that's about it. when you stop and think about it, it's not bad in the overall scheme of things.

until we know exactly what it would cost to cut roy, i'm still in the camp that it's a cutting off your nose to spite your face move.

Wow! I gotta believe you didn't mean it that way. I, for one, would trust someone with a Southern accent way before I would trust anyone with a Northeast accent. I have lived in the Northeast, the South, the Midwest, and the West Coast. Southerners are the most trustworthy, commonsense people in the country. To say they are ignorant because of the way they talk is just the typical New York elitism.

I think Flo is gone. I think the hiring of Houck with the talent waiting in the wings almost ensure his departure. The only way he stays is if he takes a paycut.

Hopefully AdamJT13 will give us the breakdown on Roy Williams numbers. You never know, we might be able to trade him.

What would you think about our #29 (#1) pick and Roy Williams to the Lions for WR Roy Williams and a 3 or 4th round pick.

Appearently, you didn't read my entire post. I was talking about how people stereotype southern people by their accent. I'm not a New Yorker, I'm a proud Texan. ;)

If you are cleaning up your presentation for a better more professional delivery then kudos. The rest of what you posted is dumb.

Trust someone more or less because of their accent = dumb
Wouldnt trust someone with a NorthEast accent = dumb
Southerners are most trustworthy = have the stats on that? = dumb
New York Elitism = dumb

i'm one of the few who doesn't want to give up on our roy williams just yet. much of that is cap hit, then who else would we get? if we pay someone else todays money for that position would we in essence be paying twice for 1 position. the real question is if roy sucks so much, how come davis, watkins or anyone else can't replace him?

Wow.

I typically judge an individual on the basis of what they do as opposed to how they talk.

Folks, just because a man is from the South doesn't mean he is anymore trustworthy than a man from the North and vice versa.

Not trying to preach, but we really need to get away from assumptions like this :D .

On the offensive side of the ball, Malcolm Kelly will be gone so it isn't looking like we will be able to draft high end potential at WR. That means we should look at picking up Roy Williams (the WR) in trade if possible. (29th pick in the draft?) I doubt the Cardinal will let Fitzgerald go, and if they did they would charge a kings ransom. Then I would trade up in the second round to try and grab the best running back I could find. Someone with an explosive first step, speed, can catch and small with a strong core. We have a big power back now, we just need a 3rd down complement back. (someone in the mold of Eric Metcalf)

I'm curious on the point of Malcolm Kelly. Are you really under the impression that he is the only WR in this draft that has the high end potentional as you called it? What are you basing this opinion on?

I did read your entire post, but you made a universal statement. I even stated I didn't believe you meant it the way you said it.

Maybe you have lived in New York too long. I feel sorry for you having to live there is the first place.

Davis and Williams are pretty close right now. I think Watkins is the Cowboys FS of the future no matter what happens. How ready he is now is unknown to me. He played pretty well last year in his limited role. Can he do it on a full time bases? Maybe. Without question, we need to draft a CB. In drafting a CB, that opens the door for Henry to become the 3rd CB in the future and a backup/or even starting safety. Henry is a far better coverage player than Williams is, and Hamlin is a natural SS safety playing FS, because Williams coverage issues.

Like I said. Kudos for one and disagree on the other part.

I dont give anyone that power over me. If they are ignorant and judge based on anything other than what I am, what I can do - I discount them... I consider the source.

Maybe thats the "New York Elitism" in me ;) :p:

You are probably correct, we shouldn't have our petty prejudices. I just don't like being called ignorant because of the way I talk.

But, yes, I would trust a Southerner before I would trust any dern Yankee.
