My thought was to draft Reggie Smith for CB. (hopefully he doesn't require a year to be ready) Move Henry to FS and resign Hamlin for SS. Of course, we still have Watkins for FS (he is playing a lot better) and Henry can play CB until Reggie Smith is ready. Reggie can play the slot with Reeves gone.

Or if you left Adams go and let Free or McQuistan take over at LT that frees up around $7M in cash. Maybe you could pick up Samuel out of New England, but I find that questionable.

And then that $7 million will be gone because you have to EAT Roy William's salary cap hit.

Here's the numbers:

Once and for all, the cap hit to cut Roy is not bad.

Here's the breakdown:
If we keep Roy:
2008 cap hit: 5.94M (2.22 bonus + 3.72 salary)
2009 cap hit: 6.62M (2.22 bonus + 4.44 salary)

If we cut him before June first
2008 cap hit: 6.66M (6.66 bonus + 0 salary)
2009 cap hit: 0

If we cut him after June first
2008 cap hit: 2.22M (2.22 bonus + 0 salary)
2009 cap hit: 4.44M (4.44 bonus + 0 salary)

So if we cut or trade him after June 1, we actually save 3.72 M from the 2008 cap as opposed to keeping him. Of course then we'd need a replacement. And the 2009 cap savings is 2.18 M. Same caveat that we'd need another player.

We may save 3.72M, but we have to pay his replacement too. And then you are talking about moving 2 players to new positions (Henry and Hamlin). I knwo they are secondary positions, but nonetheless they willl need time t learn the positions.

Roy is not going anywhere. At least not in 2008. 2009 is another story.

You are probably correct, we shouldn't have our petty prejudices. I just don't like being called ignorant because of the way I talk.

Ok... so someone owned you on that in the past. Get over it.

Davis and Williams are pretty close right now. I think Watkins is the Cowboys FS of the future no matter what happens. How ready he is now is unknown to me. He played pretty well last year in his limited role. Can he do it on a full time bases? Maybe. Without question, we need to draft a CB. In drafting a CB, that opens the door for Henry to become the 3rd CB in the future and a backup/or even starting safety. Henry is a far better coverage player than Williams is, and Hamlin is a natural SS safety playing FS, because Williams coverage issues.

Henry has been hurt almost every year he's been here. Now you want to move him to a FS where he will see more abuse on his body?

I did read your entire post, but you made a universal statement. I even stated I didn't believe you meant it the way you said it.

Maybe you have lived in New York too long. I feel sorry for you having to live there is the first place.

Nah, I've been here for 2 years now. It's actually a very nice place to live. I'm not stuck in the city (Manhattan), but live within walking distance to the Metro station that can get me to Grand Central in no time. I also live in a beautiful wooded area near the beach.

In many way, living here is better than living in Dallas/Fort Worth. One thing about D/FW. It's flat, barron, ugly, and extremely commercialized compared to where I live. Chain restaurants and other chain stores have to battle to move in because the people here don't want the ugly stores polluting the landscape. and many times fail. When they do make it in, they don't look like normal stores. McDonalds chairs are not bolted to the floor, they are made out of stained oak with granite tables and wood trim. The Subway doesn't have one of those huge yellow Subway signs.

While I do miss several chain restaurants from the Dallas area, (Pappadeaux, Pasta Mari Gras) I don't miss the ugliness of it all.

that's the flipside - $6.66 to cut him, +$4+mil to replace. so to get rid of roy would have an actual cost of around $10mil +

I grew up near NYC in NJ, and my brother lives in the city. It's a cool place to live. And there's so much to do!

I used to go to Dallas/FW for business and I know what you are talking about. DFW is Flat and boring!

Patrick Watkins is already on the roster. Promote him and draft a CB. Remember, we still have Courtney Brown who was moved to safety and has shown a lot of progress. Henry has safety expereince too.

Yeah... that was my take on going there too. I didnt hold it agains Texas though :laugh1:

I do think that Dallas made a big mistake not getting the Cowboys in there when they had their chance. Who was it the mayor that didnt want to do the deal? Bad move.

San Antonio and Austin is beautiful country. But I agree Dallas is an ugly area. I even enjoyed El Paso. My favorite place in the South was Jackson Mississippi, but Texicans are my favorite people. Aside form all that, Southern people were always polite and willing to help.

Think they were referring to him playing FS and Hamlin moving over.

I am not ready to give up on Roy completely, but I would sure have the Hamlin/Watkins contingency ready at a moments notice.

Watkins wasn't ready in 2006. He improved a lot last year, but we still have Roy Williams and his contract to deal with. There was no way the Cowboys could cut him last year, and honestly. I think Williams was worse in 2007 than he was in 2006.

There are 1,000 things to consider that effect any changes and obviously we don't have all the information. We have to hope Jerry has his head on straight, because he has lost a lot of his talent evaluators over the last two years. The question is, has he actually learned anything from them this time around? He didn't learn anything from Jimmy. He thought he knew better than Jimmy and thats how that relationship broke down.

All we can do is sit and watch. The judges gavel will come slamming down soon enough on what Jerry does.

it was *two* egos that killed that. someone looking for singular success in a team sport on either side.

amazing part to me as fans is we hate that it happened, wonder why they couldn't be smarter about it all for the sake of the team, yet we give singular credit/blame for the success all the time.

While this is true, I would rather have an egotisical jerk drafting big-time talent for my team rather than having an egotisical jerk drafting big-time ****. :lmao2:

I don't understand why some front offices don't get this. They want the players to work as a team and they can't work as a team themselves.

I think this concept is why the Patriots are so successful year in and year out in today's NFL. They have no egos go bruise, so the front office works together as a team.

could be a lot of merit to that. early on the pats didn't come out to their 1st superbowl i believe, individually, but rather as a team.
