Let's be critically honest about this offense

Luckily, you don’t need to be a tier 1 team on November 19th to have a chance. Look at the giants twice, the ravens, etc. just in the last decade.

They’re trending in a positive direction. Let’s wait and see what happens.

I agree. Make the playoffs and at least we have a shot...and maybe, despite our ownership, we do somehow win it again...

And if Julio doesn't drop that ball and Ridley doesn't miff his catch and if Sanu makes that difficult but makeable catch?

What if Jackie Smith doesn't drop that TD pass? What if Crayton makes that catch? What if Dez makes that catch? All close games have what if's but they don't count in the final score.
kind of not the same thing though. Beasley had a sure catch. The players you are describing had very contested catches.
if you want to go down that route I can talk about all the drops that Michael Gallup had. Those were very contested and could have been game-changing plays. Also the interception that Jeff Heath had.
The examples of Beasley and Maher were gimme plays.
But I do understand where you're coming from

Is the OP's big bombshell that we're not Tier 1 ie: Saints, Rams, Cheifs, Pats? Sure! We get that.

Scares me how much this teams success depends on Zeke.......and this includes our defense which has Zeke keeping them off the field and fresh.....ZEKE ZEKE ZEKE and will see how far this will take us????
Either way a HUGE Thank you to # 21

Do teams, as the season goes along, move between tiers? So today's tier 2 could be tomorrows tier 4 or the back side of tier 1? Or, where in tier 2 do they fall. If they are the top team in tier 2 does comparing them to the bottom tier 1 reveal they are close enough to swap positions if those two teams played head's up?

And, are the top tier always the best teams who make the play-offs?

1995 Dallas could not beat the 9ers. They had struggled with them through 1994 and all of 1995.

Green Bay beat the 9ers, then came to Dallas. Dallas owned Brett Favre and the Packers during that era. Dallas won then won the Super Bowl.

Now all of those teams were top tier. And if we assumed the results would be the same, had Dallas been forced to play the 9ers before Green bay, then Green Bay would have won the NFC Championship game and then the Super Bowl.

Now I understand that is skewed to fit my example. But I think it also shows the tiers are dependent on who plays who.

So can Dallas eke into the play-offs and meet the right opponent for them and move on to the second round?

Last point....the ball is pointy on both ends, which sometimes changes the outcome that doesn't fit tier this or that.
Great post.

That and the fact that we don't even have a decent backup for him.

The offense could only score 22 against one of the worst defenses in the NFL giving up 27 ppg.

Yes, the defense has improved and seems to be the strength of the team but the name of the game is points. And it is not a shut down defense.

Elliott is playing great and the OL seems to be better; however, our run game is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Scoring in the low 20's isn't going to get it done.

The reality is that the Cowboys have beaten two 2nd tier non playoff teams with losing records that are pretty evenly matched with them as the scores would indicate. And it is great to put two wins back to back and away at that; however, this team is not a tier 1 team.
we won back to back road games. One against the defending world champs and one against the NFC champs not so long ago. We are 1 game out of 1st place in our division. Last I checked the purpose of playing the game is to win not blow out every team we face!

Dallas has won 16 games in a row when they have not turned the ball over and the opponent turned the ball over just once since Sept 2016.

We as fans don't like relying on Maher. Not good for my blood pressure!

Well, we've been 50/50 on that.

I agree. I don't go by what a team did vs another team. Every game is a game within itself which is why we see a team like Tenn man handle New England. I think too many take wins for granted. Dallas faced 2 teams who were in must win situations at their place and pulled out wins, I might add we were under dogs in both games yet Cowboys win. I think you try to build off the positives in the games and look to improve the negatives of a game. For me what I want to see is wins and this team continuing to work on improving as a team.

I don't think they trust Dak to throw it long... these are is Coopers stats

I'll shield you from the mob. You and me homie. All da way

Coming from the genius who used to rip Romo to shreds, this is almost a compliment.

You don’t know football.

Let me hold your hand through the 1st sentence and then you can figure out the rest on your own, ‘mkay?

“The offense could only score 22 against one of the worst defenses in the NFL giving up 27 ppg.”

Okay, now this will require some math. Buckle up!

22 + the 4 points we lost with the Beasley dropped TD + Maher’s missed PAT = 27.

DURRRRRRRR WHOAAAAAA!!!!!!

And if we went game by game and applied the same principles of applying points left off the board, Atlanta would be giving up more than 27 ppg.

Math.

Averages.

Durrrrrrrrr whoa!

Cowboys!

Do you need him to hold your hand while he walks you through the math? I hope he has enough crayons.

soe of that can be true but lets be REAL honest,

stop anointing the defense who dropped to would be INTs , Bease let go of an easy TD I could have caught 4points, XP missed 1 point, and Gallup dropped that big catch..

it would have never come down to the last FG wins it.. I see 10-14 points left on the field.. teams scoring 27-32 points game some are Defensive scores correct? we havent been capitalizing on the defense creating Tos when they are hitting them in the hands..have to get those to get those blowout scores.. ATL was desperate AT HOME and created matchup issues for us, just because they were injured doesnt mean the guys didnt come to play, those effort plays knocking balls out etc showed, they play int he nfl as well..So their offense keeping long drives going kept the O off the field and didnt have a ton of opportunity's to score more..

All true, but on the plus side, the Falcons have averaged 26.3 ppg, and we held them to 19. But you are clearly right that the Cowboys are not a tier 1 team. Offense is way too inconsistent.

Firstly they gave away five points.

Secondly the game plan was designed to keep the ball out of that Arena league offense hands as much as possible.

Thirdly-they won.

Dak sucks.

LOL! For that to make any kind of sense, you’d have to also discount all the points Atlanta allowed that shouldn’t count against the D.

Short field caused by a Falcons turnover, special teams miscues, etc.

I’m letting go of your hand now, child. Try not to fall and crack your empty head open.
