Let's face it, defense cost us the game

Let me just say that while the offense made some bad mistake that did help in costing the game I felt that the defense cost us that game more for a few reasons:

1. That defense line couldn't really pressure Matt Ryan as they should have. That Falcons offense line did a great job in protecting Ryan and opening up holes for Freeman to run though.

2. That secondary couldn't keep there WR (Roddy, Jones) in check and when and first down when the team needed it.

3. And lastly but not least that defense allowed the Falcons to score 22 points in the second half including getting the yard need to drain the clock in the four quarter to give them the win.

Now in NO WAY am I trying to defend the offense but they scored 28 points in the first half and although they didn't score a point in the second half 28 points is a lot to give and the fact that it was done without Romo and Dez it was pretty impressive. I'm not gonna lie I thought that offense wasn't going to score that much but when I tune into the game I was shocked to see them lead yet alone 28 points

That being said that offense should had change their plan of attack when the Falcons caught on to their run game and Weeden should have thrown the ball deeper(20+ yards) especially in the last minutes of the game instead of doing short to medium pass. It work early on but it was a matter of time until Falcons picked it up.

One last thing to say and it's on the coaching staff, I felt that Garret was being too safe when came to the boys playing on the offense. Yes our main strength is our running and yes Dez and Romo our out but when Falcons took that lead they should had pass more deep.

Well what done is done let just move on to the next game.

When tony went down I thought, ok the d has improved, maybe we can win some 21-14 type games . Would have been ecstatic knowing we would hang 28 on Atlanta .
Alas, If there had been another quarter to play, the falcons might have hit 60

Agreed. Giving up 40 points will never get it done. The inability to win some battles at the LOS killed them defensively. Gashed in the run game and no pass rush.

i think he's being over-anxious and looking for something to control. :)

I think the game turned when Atl came out from after halftime time and just packed the box. Dallas had no answer on outside on offense. It deflated the defense who started leaking and then JJ took over. Its really that simple.

a beginners guide to the game yesterday.

I think not having Mincey was a problem today, I think he is better them most people give him credit for, 1 more week and we get more reinforcements.

Mincey wouldn't have made any difference in stopping the Falcons run game.

1. "as they should have"?
I disagree. This line is worse than last years line. They are without Mincey, who they had last year and are missing the new additions of Gregory and Hardy. The line now is cast of one good Dt in Crawford, and then average at best at the other 3 positions.

2. Without no pass rush, and nio Scandrick in the slot, it was a forgone conclusion their pass game was going to be effective. The secondary blew it with their porous tackling technique, though.

3. It was a team loss. The offense died at half time and the defense is roughly the same squad that we had last year, which wasn't that good, with the exception of a healthy Lee.

Starting to think Mincey should be starting ahead of D-Law when Gregory and Hardy show up.

It's like who came first the chicken or the egg....
On one hand the argument: Offense scored 28 points (BTW: no one expected a Weeden-led offense would score this number) but the defense did not stop their offense.
On the other hand: Offense did not maintain drives and keep their offense on the sidelines and allow our defense to rest....

I would put it on both because it's a TEAM effort, especially knowing how many injuries/suspensions we have on both side//so all need to step up....

Let's learn from it and move on to the Saints .. it happens, you're not gonna win them all .. the key thing is to learn and get better

I thought we should have blitzed a few more times.

Marinelli does not like to, but I agree. Ryan was not put under any pressure at all. Yes, you sacrifice coverages if you blitz, but we were not challenging Jones in any way regardless.

It was a bland gameplan from Marinelli and at least he owned up to that fact.

Let's face it. When you have a severely limited quarterback... Your defense will be on the field too long and exposed an extra time or two or three (series)

Our offense could have held that lead.

Just went back and re-watched the 2nd half.....boy there was a multitude of mistakes.

1. On the 2pt conversion....we had 10 guys on the field. Happened again in the 4th quarter and we had to burn our first T.O. Seemed like we had quite a few substitution gaffs.

2. Can any of our DEs keep the containment on the run? I bet we give up the edge more than any team in football.

3. Our Lbers had poor games. All of them kept getting caught up in the wash. I'm really starting to think Kyle Wilber may not be the answer @ OLB. He was continuely late to diagnois the play was coming his way and needed to step up in the hole and make a tackle .

4. There was concern about our lack of size on the D-line.....and yesterday showed it's ugly head. Atlanta really controlled the line of scrimmage.....which was kind of shocking. I know we are short on numbers.....but I'm starting to think it wouldn't have mattered. All of our young guys were getting worked....Bishop, Russell, Coleman (to some extent). We need to get some DTs w/ some beef that are gonna clog the middle if we are gonna have small Lbers make plays.

5. I didn't understand why we didn't use Byron Jones on Julio to jam him @ the LOS. Giving Julio free run all day was just dumb.

6. We got out coached. Defensively we did nothing to stop Atlanta once they got the momentum. We tried a couple of delayed blitzes that we're ineffective...and that was about it.

7. We tried to use Damien Wilson @ LDE on a few snaps. Why???? I know one thing...I sure don't like how Marinelli has his D-line rotation set up. Seems like he wastes D-law on run downs 1st and 2nd...when a guy like J. Crawford would be better suited to do some of the dirty work. I thought Ryan Russell would have been a guy...but he really looks like a rookie out there that need to be on the practice squad for a year.....sad thing is if you went that direction....someone would surely snatch him off waivers.

8. Our tackling was atroucious. It just seemed like we could not get off blocks all day long.
