Dunno on that.
Knight was a swing tackle type at that point and played reasonably well at LT in 2019. I remember being shocked he didn't get the call over Steele.
Moot by now though sir, and it sounds like we are going young on the back end of the OL. I didn't agree a couple of days ago, now I do.
- I could only guess-assume the coaches thought LT was thought too much a bigger responsibility for rookie Steele, who also didn't have an offseason program,
no mini camps, ..and i believe NFL canceled preseason per CoVid issues, so there just wasn't much preparation work for Steele at that time.
- Knight at least had a NFL year under his belt with playing some as a rookie in 2019, including one start at RT vs Jets.
* * Alert: If we go thru another yet season (vast rash injuries aside) with problems and turmoil among the OL unit .. Joe Philibin is outta here !
Maybe just me, but i'm just not sold on this Packer OL zone style philosophy for this kind of player personnel.
.- And further more, i'll be willing to bet the Jones will be vying (insisting?) to return to the Columbo man block mauling style again and pursuing such an new OL coach.
with that kind of emphasis. (ala Mike Munchak ? Columbo) ..and of course no McCarthy either.
- If power and mauling is what rookie Tyler Smith seems best suited for, i'd prefer to have the OL scheme that best suits his skill set... JMHO.
