It wasn’t even two years ago that the Eagles fired Chip Kelly, an alleged offensive guru who had saddled them with a bunch of overpaid and underperforming offensive players. It’s remarkable how quickly they’ve cleaned up his mess.

Philadelphia, which put up 51 points on a very good Denver defense on Sunday, is now 8-1 and the best team in the NFL. That’s mostly due to its stellar offense, and what’s remarkable about that offense is how completely it has been rebuilt since the departure of Kelly, who spent three years as the Eagles’ coach and also had final say over personnel in his final year. Bad personnel moves can put a team in a salary cap hole that takes a long time to dig out of, but Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman and coach Doug Pederson have done it quickly.

The big move, of course, was at quarterback. Not everyone was sold on Carson Wentz coming out of North Dakota State last year, but the Eagles were. They traded two of Kelly’s favorite defensive players, Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell, to move up in the first round of the draft, then traded that first-round pick, another first-round pick, a second-round pick and a third-round pick to Cleveland to get the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. That’s the pick they used to get Wentz.

Poor Cleveland. When they stay pat and draft-- they cant get a franchise QB. And when they try and "Herschel Walker" the Eagles they lose out on drafting Wentz.

It was a big price to pay for the Eagles, however, if he maintains anything like his current trajectory, he’ll be worth everything they have up.

The Eagles have turned things around overnight, much like the Rams have done. We have a TON of talent on this team. In the end however, you're only as good as your coaching.

In today's NFL, a franchise QB has to be considered a "Pearl of Great Price" (Biblical reference) where the QB is worth selling all of your possessions to acquire. They are so hard to find and add so much that can be built upon. You have to give Philadelphia credit in both recognizing the potential in Wentz....and in developing him properly. They are playing well right now...and getting the breaks. Still a lot of football left and we'll see how it goes from here.

I dont know if all things equal if I'd take Wentz over Dak. I do know we got our guy for a fourth.
It's going to be a bumpy ride for the next decade.

The Rams really haven't been an overnight story though.

Dating back to at least 2014, I can remember high expectations from them because of the loads of defensive talent they had.

They're like the 49ers before the arrival of Harbaugh.

Just cause i'm a Cowboys fan doesn't mean i'll be blind. Wentz seems to be an exceptional talent, just like Dak.
We need to worry about building Dak a defense, I'd hate to see this go the way of Brady/Manning.

Wentz is well worth what they spent on him. This league's rules pave the way for the pure passers like Wentz.

I still wouldn't. Not at this point at least.

The way Dak rebounded against GB was the stuff legends are made from.

Haven't had the opportunity to see that with Wentz yet.

And that absolute beat down of the team that gave the Cowboys and absolute beat down was impressive.

They will be a huge hurdle to try to overcome twice this year.

Anyone who wants to look foolish trying to undermine or downplay what they've accomplished is free to do so.

I will gladly take Dak and Zeke over Wentz plus the loss of the all the draft picks. It really is not even close. The Wentz the Bedders don't really even think about what Philthy gave up to get a guy that at best is even with Dak.

That's very true. And an excellent point.

That team - and specifically the defense - that I saw yesterday gives me a lot more hope that we can compete with the Eagles than I had before.
