I actually like Grier. He has some Romo to his game. I definitely think he's a better game manager.I believe the Cowboys staff has already seen enough of Will Grier in practice to know what he's capable of. Of course, that's to his advantage at this point in time. He'll see as much time as this staff needs to get an accurate picture with him as their QB. They likely have quite a good idea of his skills already.
Joe Milton has only been with the Cowboys for far less time and deserves a fair opportunity to find and develop the best parts of himself and his play to expose what he's capable of with a fair degree of accuracy to discover most of his abilities. It will take more reps for him to develop his skills capably.
With those things in house for the Cowboys staff to weigh, I think we should allow them to utilize their knowledge of each QB to learn which one will best be suited to lead this team in the event of Dak's being unavailable for a significant amount of time. I'm inclined to give them credit for having the experience to know what's best to bring out the best in both Grier and Milton as their QBs.
I won't deceive myself into thinking that I'm better inclined to know their business than they are. I'm just voting to trust them with their knowledge and experience to bring Grier and Milton to be the right players to suit the Cowboys. They're best equipped to serve their players to manage and control the teams that they must combat and deal with capably enough to overcome their challenges. They're not amateurs.
