Let's Talk About Will Grier

I believe the Cowboys staff has already seen enough of Will Grier in practice to know what he's capable of. Of course, that's to his advantage at this point in time. He'll see as much time as this staff needs to get an accurate picture with him as their QB. They likely have quite a good idea of his skills already.

Joe Milton has only been with the Cowboys for far less time and deserves a fair opportunity to find and develop the best parts of himself and his play to expose what he's capable of with a fair degree of accuracy to discover most of his abilities. It will take more reps for him to develop his skills capably.

With those things in house for the Cowboys staff to weigh, I think we should allow them to utilize their knowledge of each QB to learn which one will best be suited to lead this team in the event of Dak's being unavailable for a significant amount of time. I'm inclined to give them credit for having the experience to know what's best to bring out the best in both Grier and Milton as their QBs.

I won't deceive myself into thinking that I'm better inclined to know their business than they are. I'm just voting to trust them with their knowledge and experience to bring Grier and Milton to be the right players to suit the Cowboys. They're best equipped to serve their players to manage and control the teams that they must combat and deal with capably enough to overcome their challenges. They're not amateurs.
I actually like Grier. He has some Romo to his game. I definitely think he's a better game manager.

Gotta have a QB2.

Hope Grier is up to it.
I have zero confidence in him or Milton if Dak goes down for a significant period. It may end up being a huge mistake not hanging onto Cooper Rush. We should have made more of an effort to upgrade over him, especially after what happened to Dak last season.

When it comes to quarterbacks, I like me some underdogs, especially when we're talking about backups.

Cooper Rush was an underdog who manages to overcome the odds of being non-athletic and having a sub par arm.

I honestly see a higher potential in Grier as far as athleticism than Rush, and probably more pragmatic traits as a QB2 than Milton.

What I saw from Milton yesterday didn't give me much hope he can step in and be the guy unless they put a leash on him and he learns how to manage the game as a proverbial bus driver, which isn't a bad thing at all, especially when we're talking back ups.

My question is, who is QB2 on this team? And does Dallas keep 2 or 3 QBs?

Why?
This is what Grier's 7th season? Kudos for hanging around this long, but I think at this point teams rather roll the dice with an unknown with upside.

To me Grier is a number 3 QB that likely has developed the game knowledge to make a couple plays if absolutely needed, but I don't know that he carries a lot of upside where he could hold it down.

If the Cowboys keep only 2 QBs I'm keeping Milton and trying to get Grier on the practice squad.

Will Grier is a former 3rd round pick in 2019 and is now 30 years old. He's been on several teams and has done nothing of note.
He lit it up his last preseason game in Dallas with Dak calling plays.

I think if Dak goes down, there might be a good mentor-play caller situation for Dak to still have a role in the offense.

If Milton continues to struggle I think they have to explore outside options. I mean Grier is getting hyped after 3 attempts and 2 rushes for a combined 26 yards. We have to tap the brakes on handing him QB2
He's shown he has ability last time he was here. It was just too little too late.

One thing is for sure -- Grier has the experience that Milton has yet to receive. This is why Milton must be concentrated upon to allow his game management up to par with what the job demands.

Both Joe and Grier will need to get dutifully prepared to offer the support that's expected of them. Milton will be schooled to avoid the pitfalls that all rookies need to avoid in cultivating success. Hopefully, he'll improve as the needed work and additional experience help him to in due time.

Grier will get his time in as the staff allows him to. Hopefully, he'll get enough attention to hone his game up to the standards that expected of one with the experience he's had and must still receive. He's a bit more polished in the things that make him a more prepared performer at this point in time. Milton is just playing catch up. It remains to be seen if and when his preparation pays off enough to find success.

Meh, if your back qb is having to play a significant amount of games, your season is over anyway.
Back up qb is the most irrelevant player in all sport unless you invest heavily in them, which nobody does.
Foles says hold my beer.

They should have kept Rush at the least.

Losing Dak at anytime during the season....its over.

just like 2015.

There isnt a DC in the NFL that is going to feel threatened by Grier/JM.

2Man Press the entire game.
Just like 2015...lol

I've been saying 2025 Dak = 2015 Romo.

You might have something there. Maybe we can convert Dak's salary cap hit to coaches salary and just let hom coach and not play!
