The Reid discussion got locked below but there was an interesting point in that thread.

Some people seem to think we are fine at SS and it's FS that we need. That might be the case, but what do people think Woods is? He's not a SS. Is he not a FS candidate? Or is he strictly a dime defensive back?

I'd like to see what he could do at FS and think he has a higher ceiling there than Heath or Frazier would have at SS IMO. But do people think we are fine at SS?

I am of the mind, bring in a legit SS and let Woods play FS.

I think Woods is a dime guy for now. He could play some snaps at FS but I don't think I'd want him there full time.

At SS, I don't really like Heath or Frazier, but we missed the boat on upgrades in free agency (Morgan Burnett would have been sweet) and I'm not seeing a lot of difference makers in the draft who would be better than Heath. Maybe Ronnie Harrison if he's still there in the second.

If cheap, I believe Reid would be a big upgrade at SS.

I see Woods as a potential FS, but a guy I'm just note sure about yet. And by sure about, I mean someone I can trust to be my single high safety and last line of defense.

My feeling is that Kris Richard is going to make that package a staple of this defense and his top priority to fill, just like he played things in Seattle.

And I think they have to find someone they can absolutely trust back there to get the job done.

Heath is a dumpster fire
Boston and Reid are way way better

Derwin James. That is all.

The Cowboys need a ball-hawking QB of the D who can play all over the field. Reid doesn't fill that need. Box safeties are a dime a dozen. The Cowboys seem be collectors of that position.

But yet, I don't think we have one of those dime a dozen SSs. Frazier is limited to me and Heath, well he's best as a back up.

A good player but not someone I'm trusting as my single high. Certainly not as a rookie.

I like James but not enough to give up a 2nd and/or 3rd round pick to move up to get him. If we were one safety from a SB contender, maybe.

But with our roster holes, I can't justify it IMO.

Same here.

And again, I like him, but I don't trust him to be "that guy" and plug and play right out of the box with that "new player smell."

I have tunnel vision going. For me, it's Earl Thomas at a fair price, or Tre Boston at what I expect will be a bargain.

Minkah is the FS that Dallas needs though, at least that skill set and range
Derwin is amazing but is nowhere near the same playing over the middle
he plays best at SS where he can cover TE or shut down runs outside / spy QB

of course when the coaching staff is fired next year he may be a great fit for the incoming DC
