Let's talk safety

I've fell for this trap way too many times to fall for this again...see...

Patrick Bates...Raiders
Ken Swilling....Georgia Tech
Roy Williams....Cowboys

Big safeties that can't cover....No bueno:thumbdown:

James is nothing like those guys

I don't know why we're not talking about Ronnie Harrison more. He's absolutely in play at 19, and would fill a huge need.

I really see Woods as a Matheiu type super nickel/dime back. I'd be happy if he becomea that for us.

The Reid discussion got locked below but there was an interesting point in that thread.

Some people seem to think we are fine at SS and it's FS that we need. That might be the case, but what do people think Woods is? He's not a SS. Is he not a FS candidate? Or is he strictly a dime defensive back?

I'd like to see what he could do at FS and think he has a higher ceiling there than Heath or Frazier would have at SS IMO. But do people think we are fine at SS?

I am of the mind, bring in a legit SS and let Woods play FS.
I think Woods could play either. He is much more FS, he could play SS but there may be some limitations.

Him and James would be a good tandem. But I think if we moved up for Fitzpatrick and played Woods at SS, Woods could be dynamic with Fitzpatrick funneling alot of pass plays Woods. Woods plays for the turnover

Some decent options in the 2-3 round this year.

Like Woods, Frazier is a dude that could play SS if needed.

Quite a few guys left in FA, i'd pick one up and hope a S fell BPA to me in the draft.

Dallas search for a safety was immortalized in an 80's song.

I mean Frazier could play Sam in a pinch but I wouldn’t play him there on the reg. He would get mauled by a pulling guard or tackle...
i understand the issue with that, we already have that with Wilson
my thinking is Fraizer is far more athletic and is a box safety who loves to hit, having him on the edge blitzing and covering the TE could make use of his roster spot
whatever you have to do to get your best defenders on the field
maybe after the draft things will look much different

A hybrid defense, to outside the box for this group of coaches...

Minkah is the FS that Dallas needs though, at least that skill set and range
Derwin is amazing but is nowhere near the same playing over the middle
he plays best at SS where he can cover TE or shut down runs outside / spy QB

of course when the coaching staff is fired next year he may be a great fit for the incoming DC

Minkah at FS? You want him over the top in cover-3 looks? He'd get eaten alive. He can't carry receivers and you don't want him 15 yards downfield. Minkah is a FS. Derwin has more range and athleticism to play deep, carry receivers and still come up and fill.

that's not even an option and you know that.

The draft is in Dallas.

Jerry will want to make a splash and move up.

I would rather sign he who must not be named than give up our 2nd to move up for James, but I think it's likely we do the opposite
