Let's talk safety

Same here.

And again, I like him, but I don't trust him to be "that guy" and plug and play right out of the box with that "new player smell."

I have tunnel vision going. For me, it's Earl Thomas at a fair price, or Tre Boston at what I expect will be a bargain.
You want the best case scenarios... don't we all?

We need a FS, Frazier should be our box SS..

I’m not sold on Woods at FS yet but he hasn’t really gotten the reps there to make a case. He’s got potential though...

I like James but not enough to give up a 2nd and/or 3rd round pick to move up to get him. If we were one safety from a SB contender, maybe.

But with our roster holes, I can't justify it IMO.
Well when you are al realistic and stuff then yeah. Lol. Way to ruin my Friday with your reality and truth.

Personally @Sydla I think woods can man the spot. Kid has a nose for the ball. His college tape proves it. Can he do it at this level? That’s the question. I think once Richard gets his hands on these young dbs we have we are gonna see a dramatic change

That would be great considering I really liked what I saw from them as rookies.

Fraizer should get a look at sam imo, hes way faster than Wilson, he must have some knowledge of the game if hes playing safety
if he cant cover then he cant play
why not give him the opportunity
it keeps him on the field too

If he is a generational free safety like an Ed Reed, spend the extra picks and get him. Getting a multi-year, pro bowl calibre player at the cost of an extra pick would be worth it, IMO. However, I haven't watched enough of James to make that conclusion on how good he is/how good he can be.

It would be great to trade for Thomas (Beasley and a 3?). Boston would be a good addition at FS and probably at a good value.

Safety has been an issue for too long. Love James in draft as well but doubtful he’s around for us.

by that i mean like Sean Taylor
Ed Reed was one of the greatest FS ever

excited about future with these young guns...Awuzie and Lewis at CB...Xavier at S.

I think they address their secondary again in the draft.....Rd 2 or 3....some good S's out there...Jessie Bates,WF......Marcus Allen,Penn St....Kyzir White,WVA.....Jordan Whitehead,Pitt.

I think they get their S in the draft.

BUT.
why do I sense trade winds blowing from the pacific NW area.

I mean Frazier could play Sam in a pinch but I wouldn’t play him there on the reg. He would get mauled by a pulling guard or tackle...

The Reid discussion got locked below but there was an interesting point in that thread.

Some people seem to think we are fine at SS and it's FS that we need. That might be the case, but what do people think Woods is? He's not a SS. Is he not a FS candidate? Or is he strictly a dime defensive back?

I'd like to see what he could do at FS and think he has a higher ceiling there than Heath or Frazier would have at SS IMO. But do people think we are fine at SS?

I am of the mind, bring in a legit SS and let Woods play FS.

I'm a big fan of Woods and when he's flying by the seat and not thinking, he looks great. However, as seems to be a problem with this team, he seems to be getting over coached. You can see him processing and thinking too much. That's causing him to take missteps which, as a safety, can really hurt you. I think he has immense potential and we have the perfect DB coach to help him turn the corner.

If we don't get Thomas, it's definitely going to be a troop at both safety spots and that's fine with me. I honestly don't think it's a huge need. If we can get consistent pressure, we can get by with guys still learning.

For me, OL was and is still the biggest issue on this team. We need two OL, both capable of starting. I love the Hurns deal, but I'm afraid that just took the Flemming money... Sorry, got side tracked.

I think it would be crazy to think that Woods is the starting FS next year aleady. How much did he even play there last year? I feel like he played more slot CB than anything. There needs to be a proven vet to lock down the position for at least a year until they figure out if Woods or someone they draft is the answer.

Woods deserves a chance to compete for either of the starting safety spots. He showed way more football instincts last year than I've seen in 3 years from that wasted first round pick Byron Jones. I'm also in the Derwin James/Earl Thomas camp. Woods is the only guy on the roster I currently want to get a look at one of the starting spots..I've seen enough of Heath, Jones, and everyone else to know they aren't the answer.
