Not really, but he is no where even remotely close to Bates. There is a chance he becomes a viable player but it is way premature at this point.

well this is his first year...hold on and have some faith.

it's premature for you to hate is it not?

I don't hate him but Bill has a stellar history on ST's and in nickel packages. Jeff has a long ways to go and crowning a player too early is hardly a good thing. Lets see if he becomes Jeff Heath and not Bill Bates 2.0.

he reminds me of bill bates with more range..

let me enjoy.

the play every one hates him on.
justin durant is the one that knocked him off peterson at the goal line by the way.

he was about to shovel him into the ground on that play.

happy thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving as well. I don't fault Heath for any particular play, he is a rookie and needs experience. I am just partial to Bates, he has been a family friend for a long time, well before he was even a Cowboy dating back to his Tennessee Volunteer days. Guess I get a bit defensive on his behalf.

no problem bro..

i am a fan of this franchise since 1975 at the age of 8 years old...i have that.

bill bates was one of my favorite players ever.

tom landry once stated that he if he had 11 bill bates on the field we would be impossible to beat.

i'm simply saying jeff reminds me of bill.

Why does he have to be someone else? Can't he be just Jeff Heath and someone who could potentially become a good player?

He's getting better. No doubt. Where he was originally sought out as a multi year project, having been thrust into real game situations has accelerated that process at the expense of us seeing what can happen to a project in games like New Orleans and Detroit.

That said, I typically refuse to hate a player until he has had at least 2 full years to prove his worth or otherwise. I commend Heath for using this early 1st team run to remain focused in improving his game. While the comparison to Bill Bates is less than appropriate IMO, I think he definitely has the potential to be a very solid player for us over the next few years. I think he need to get his weight up a tad. Some work in the weight room will do wonders for him.

Bill Bates was a special teams demon, but at safety he was more heart than talent. Heath could match or surpass Bates at safety, IMO.

my only problem with heath is that he tries too much to poke the ball out instead of just tackling....he has gotten carried several times this season....rookie mistake? coaching going too far? yes on both accounts...I am glad he is a cowboy, but as a Bates fan, I don't yet see the comparison...

Bill Bates lacked talent but he more than made that up with work ethic, heart and hustle. I'm not sure what we have with Heath and it's too early to say one way or another but I do hope as I do with all the Cowboys that he have a great career.
