The average cap hit for starting players on the Lions is somewhere around $4 million. They paid Maurice Morris $3.3 million in salary and bonuses in 2009.Alexander;3350182 said:You would be fine with paying 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 million dollars for a back who has never had a 1,000 yard season and has not played a full season in the last two? 8 million in two years is a sizeable payout as well. No team is going to touch that, it is just too much bother and risk for a player who is not an affirmed superstar. The contract escalates each year and if a cap returns, it even accelerates if cut if I am not mistaken. I am no cap guru, but I think that is a prohibitive risk for any team.
Maybe so.Hostile;3350201 said:I don't know and it really doesn't matter.
cowboyjoe;3350139 said:how about a 3rd and 7th for barber, or a 4th and 7th, detroit has a bunch of 7th round picks too
dont want to really trade choice, but if you can get say a 2nd this year and a 7th, and a 2nd or 3rd next year, i might be interested
KJJ;3350214 said:You'll never get 2 picks for Barber I can't see anyone giving up anything more than a 4th for him. He's not a feature back he's had injuries the past 2 seasons and he has an over priced contract.
AbeBeta;3350219 said:The "overpriced" piece of his deal is the 16 mill in guaranteed money which we have ALREADY paid out.
Marktui;3350266 said:I doubt that they would even consider a trade for Barber, given his track record the last few years with injuries and sub par play. I don't want to part with Choice, he is a younger player and great for the locker room, plus he has played well when given the opportunity.

Two words...Herschel Walker.cowboyjoe;3350310 said:Not for me with ware, now maybe in 3-4 years, but he is untouchable right now or should be.

Lions considering a trade for a running back

When looking for a possible suitor for available running backs like Marshawn Lynch, LenDale White, or even Ronnie Brown, look no further than the Detroit Lions.
"I've talked to agents for several players," Lions G.M. Martin Mayhew said at a pre-draft press conference. "We've talked about trades. We've talked about trading for some players. We talk now about the draft. We'll see how we come out of this."
The Lions have a desperate need at running back. Kevin Smith is coming off a disappointing year and December surgery for a torn ACL. Maurice Morris is just a guy. Basically, the Lions need to see how the draft falls to them and react from there.
Mayhew doesn't have a fifth or sixth-round pick, which could limit flexibility. They have three seventh-rounders.

Of course they'd consider a trade for him. The issue for them would be at what cost?

1st, 3rd, 6th for Barber and a 5th. That way we even out the RW trade that they hosed us on
HoleInTheRoof;3350220 said:I'm amazed at how Cowboys fans over rate Barbers value. No way would we get anything more than a 4th for him.
He's more valuable to keep . . .

KJJ;3350237 said:I still don't think anyone would want to pay the rest of his contract based off the nagging injuries he's been coming up with the past 2 seasons and his lack of production. He's having trouble just picking up a yard in critical situations. He has the looks of a back who's body is starting to break down from the wear and tear and by the end of the season he's out of gas. He averaged under 3 yards a carry in the playoffs. He was so ineffective the Cowboys stopped going to him. He would have to be dealt cheaply to move him.
