They don't have to pay the rest of his deal. NFL contracts aren't guaranteed. Most balloon in the final years with the salaries kept relatively low in the 1st 3-4 years b/c they are offset by the bonuses.

So you're saying if we trade Barber that team would then sign him to a new deal?

This is Barber's contract details. He signed this contract May 20, 2008. His base salary is 3.86 million.

5/20/2008: Signed a seven-year, $45 million contract. The deal contains $16 million guaranteed, including a $12 million signing bonus. 2010: $3.86 million (+ $4 million roster bonus due in March), 2011: $4.25 million, 2012: $5.75 million, 2013: $6.25 million, 2014: $7 million, 2015: Free Agent

Ya seriously. Untouchable? lol hardly.

You put out a good deal, anyone has a price.

What price is there for Ware? Let's just for example say that the Rams offered all their picks(they wouldn't do this but just for arguments sake); The 1st pick of every round(assuming they have all their picks). You would trade them Ware for every pick of each round? Sure it sounds great now but none of the guys you get in return will be as good as Ware. Maybe you gain depth but the draft is such a hit and miss I wouldn't do it. Sure you get 7 more picks but what's the point if none of the draft picks hit on anything? And its safe to say no one in this draft is going to be as dominant as Ware. Ware is a untouchable for me as is Romo.

Its not Barbers fault that Jerry gave him all that money... If Barber was making 2mil a year nobody would be complaining. Nobody is going to take on Barbers contract. This is the disposible RB era in the NFL. Unless u have a special young back like AP or LT in his prime I would never overpay for a RB..

If we trade Barber that team is going to be stuck with his contract. If he's going to be traded this would be the year because his contract is workable right now. Teams would be off the hook for his roster bonus in 2010 but not in the coming years.

That is really irrelevant.

Bill Russell, the Celtic great, was on Johnny Carson one night many years ago. He told a story about a woman he met in a bar. He asked her if she would go to bed with him for $100,000. She said, "hell yes." He asked her if she would go to bed with him for $20. She said, "what do you think I am a *****?" He said, "that has already been established, now we are negotiating price."

Outside of some folks who refuse to budge from a moral foundation almost everything has a price. Whether someone would actually pay that price is another matter.

If a team offered Jerry their 1st round pick for the next 10 years he would almost have to take it. Would anyone offer that? Doesn't matter. Somewhere there is a price.

There is always a price.

No, they can't sign him to a new deal. They can sign him to an extension and juggle bonus money around. In order to get a new contract you have to end the existing contract and that means you have to cut the players. A team that does trade for Barber or anyone does not have to worry about their signing bonus impacting their salary cap. That remains with the team that traded him away.

No. I'm saying that his deal, at least over the next few years is not outrageous because we've already paid him a ton upfront. Look at the rest of the thread where his salary is detailed. Then come back and tell me you understand better.

You said a team wouldn't have to pay the rest of his deal and that's not the case so you need to come back when you understand better. Here's your quote "They don't have to pay the rest of his deal. NFL contracts aren't guaranteed." Right now Barber's contract is workable because as I mentioned trade partners would be off the hook for his roster bonus in 2010 but that's not so in the coming years....understand? Barber is going to be due $24 million over the next 3 years.

How about this lest say we do not move up in the top 12 stay at 27 grab one guy we want lets say someone we have rated highly falls and is sitting at the top of the 2nd round.

Dallas calls Detroit and say we will give you Barber and our #2 for your #2 does Detroit take the trade.

I have never said it was impossible for him to be traded. I have said the rumors that were circling the Internet of him in a package deal with Crayton to get the #12 pick had no basis in fact. Every player has a price. If someone pays that price or higher we would move him. I just don't expect him to be traded.

I don't think it's likely, either but for different reasons. It's easy to be biased when looking through Silver and Blue lenses but looking at Barber we are still talking about a back who has NEVER topped 1,000 yards in any season and is being paid like he's a stud. I just don't see any other team making a blockbuster type deal for or the financial commitment to this guy that the Cowboys have.

Barbe can fetch more than a third, he'd better fetch at least a third and a fourth if not a second and a fifth.

Are you serious? No team would give 2 picks for Barbie especially not a 3rd and a 4th or a 2nd and a 5th. LOL The Cowboys would be lucky to get a 5th for him.

Choice isn't on the trading block. Barber might be, but probably isn't.

Choice better not be! One of my favorite players.

You guys thinking we are going to get a 2nd or even a 3rd for Barber are halarious. No way in hell are we getting that type of deal for Barber, we would be lucky to get a 4th and even that is a longshot.

The other problem is that Barber is way overpaid for his production. Nobody is going to touch that contract so that lowers the compensation we would get even further.

Most likely scenario is that Felix and Choice take over most of the carries this season and Barber is released next year when the cap comes back. Lets face it, Barber is not the "Barbarian" that he was back in 07 and he aint ever going to be that player again.

If they do talk to us and we move someone it better not be Choice. I love Barber, I really do, but I'd much rather part ways with him than Choice.
