I remember we used to complain that Garrett was too complicated and was always trying to get "cute" with the play calling. That we needed to keep it simple because our guys couldn't execute his trick plays and what not.

Now he's just vanilla.. Maybe we just need better players or smarter players...

You're right, the Cowboys need 10 or so Pro Bowlers to win.

That's what the Garrett-homers use to say, not the Garrett critics... One of typical excuses for Garrett was Dez didn't understand the playbook and the year after, it was Romo would audible out of the runs Garrett was calling. When he got 'play-calling' taken away from him, they then tried to change course and say Garrett never wanted to call plays in the first place and wanted to hire a play-caller..

The Garrett critics always said he sucked and was predictable, as pretty much even our opponents like the Ravens said...

I can complain about a million things wrong with my wife, but that doesn't make her, a bad wife.

For me....

1. Rex Ryan
2. Joe Philbin (when Philbin was with the Fins) and by proxy, Dan Campbell
3. Pettine
4. O'Brien (he hasn't shown me anything, yet)
5. Bradley
6. Mularkey
7. McCoy
8. Gruden (again, hasn't shown me anything, yet)
9. Chip Kelly
10. Caldwell
11. Tomsula

I would put him in the range of a Del Rio and Jeff Fisher. He's good at developing talent, but his inability and unwillingness to be more advanced schematically hurts him.

Ok, now tell me how many of those you consider to be worse than Garrett have had s franchise top 5-7 qb for their entire HC career? Not one.

This is a league of parity, most teams will be average (around 500) of you have a franchise top 5-7 qb like romo, there's no way you should not win 9-11 games

Look at the win/loss of other top 5-7 qbs in the last 5 years.....

Give Romo to most of these coaches you are listing and they would be suddenly much 'better' coaches

A top QB changes that much

Garrett is a really really bad HC no matter how you slice it

How about Wade Phillips, and our ex DC/secondary coach...who was the sole coach that Jerry trusted at the time, Campo?

Start providing examples without a homer's stereotyping insult.

I'm rather amused with a Sheep Herder's tag team endeavor.

Very true.

I just tend to take the 2014 season with merit. We were a flawed team. Remember, there were people talking about how the Cowboys defense could very well be the *worst of all time* after a horrendous 2013 season and Sean Lee getting injured in training camp and being out for the season.

I felt it was a good litmus test for a coach. We had strengths, but plenty of weaknesses. If we went 8-8, he was a very average coach. If we went 10-6, he was a pretty good coach.

I could see if he went 10-6 and then 4-12 this year, but going 12-4 and getting robbed in Green Bay showed me something.

My patience is just about worn out with Garrett. But, any time you're relying on your #2 QB (or #3 or #4 QB), odds are you're not going to be very good anyway. I'd rather see what Garrett can do with his own first round pick at QB and how that develops.

Of course, if we don't make the playoffs next season...I find no reason to keep him around for 2017.

I did provide examples in that post.. Dez not knowing his routes and Romo allegedly audibling out of the run plays Garrett called in the context of Garrett wanting to run, but Romo kept preventing it..
