Livings to Have Knee Surgery

Dat Nguyen talked about this yesterday on his show. He said he's not surprised that Livings is injured again, because when Leary returned to practice, he was doing very well, and Jerry and Stephan went over to Leary and expressed how happy they were with his return and play. Dat said that Livings saw this and decided his knee injury was getting worse, and wanted to protect this year's salary by landing on the IR. Dat said it happens all the time with veteran players...

From what I heard Livings $1.7M salary this year is fully guaranteed. So, he doesn't need "to protect" his salary.

So, put yourself in the Cowboys' situation as GM: You have to pay him since his salary is already guaranteed. You might as well just wait 2-4 weeks and see if his knee does get better. Hopefully, no more guards get injured and Bernadeau heals quickly. If the other guards Leary, Arkin, and Bern show something, then you can get rid of Livings and eat his salary (or part of his salary if some other team picks him up for the vet min). If one more guard gets injured or Leary and Arkin show nothing, then you just may need Livings several weeks from now assuming he heals.

His re-structure was never turned in to the league office, so I don't think he is guaranteed a full salary.

His re-structure was never turned in to the league office, so I don't think he is guaranteed a full salary.

There are some reports that indicate that his 2013 base salary was guaranteed as part of his original contract. Others believe that it might only be guaranteed against injury.

It's still not clear if his contract was or was not restructured. There was the original report that it was restructured, then another report that said it was not turned in to the league.

The websites that try to keep track of contract info like Rotoworld and Spotrac both show that it was restructured. I'm not sure how they would get the restructured numbers if it was not turned in to the league.

The other thing I'd keep in mind that Livings (from all accounts) was just having his knee scoped. We're not talking season ending injury here. It also sounds like what they did in January didn't get everything done or something was left behind, which didn't help the healing process. If it's like what Spencer went through he would be back just before the last preseason game, which isn't a horrible situation in that he's likely going to be a reserve this season anyway.

The team didn't like Grubbs because he wasn't a good match for the blocking scheme they wanted to implement... Not too mention he was very costly.

I always laugh at the "cost too much" argument. Especially when we end up paying for two guys to make up for the one who got hurt or didn't pan out. Should have just done it right to begin with. The old saying is right even in football....YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!

Your glasses must have been dirty because you totally missed the first part of my post.

Get some windex and some wipes and have another crack at it...

last year when we went dumpster diving for Livings and Bernie there were better if more costly possibilities. You get what you pay for.

Most knowlegdable people have reported that Livings played at an above average level last season.

The Cowboys paid a lot for Roy Williams... How'd that work out?

The Cowboys paid a lot less for Kyle Kosier... How'd that work out?

When you paint things with a "broad brush" you had better be prepared to go back and scape off your mistakes.

Class is in session.. Professor Mike at the lectern.

I just hate clichés because they don't apply in all instances. When I hear things like "You get what you pay for" or "Winning starts in the trenches" I just cringe because I know someone is too lazy or isn't knowledgeable enough to support their position with something more than a flimsy, overused cliché.

Per RotoWorld he graded out in the lower five percent of all centers last year.

I am not happy that Livings is hurt, but now Leary is going to get his shot. I believe he is the answer and am betting on Kowalski or Arkin for the other side. But if Leary's knee problem doesn't manifest itself, he will be one of the pieces we have been waiting on.

Hopefully it is Leary but another option is we could put Costa at center and Frederic at guard. Not sure if we can trust Costa for a full year at center without getting hurt though. We could also use Arkin on the other side. Either way, we have options but I worry about the depth.

I think if he worded it.. "You usually get what you pay for" it would have been fine. Either way, I knew exactly what he meant.

Two decades?

How much money did they give BIGG to sign here?

And Marco Rivera?

And the tackle Parcells brought in from the Jets who flamed out?

Not too mention 2 1st round draft picks in 3 years.

They may not be good at picking OL talent. They may have signed the wrong free agents. But to out-right claim they've ignored the unit is lunacy.

Don't forget about the guard who was signed that stuck around

Can't remember his name but he was out there helping Gurode make the line calls.

Kyle Kosier.

There it is.
