Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post reports that the Cowboys are having "serious internal discussions" about releasing Terrell Owens.

"Serious discussions," Lombardi stresses. This coincides with last week's report by ESPN's Ed Werder, who cited a supposed decline by the 35-year-old wideout. But there simply has been none. Owens got stronger during the season's second half, averaging 18.9 YPC with five TDs in the last eight games.

I say that it would be a step in the right direction. New stadium, new attitude.

I'd be having them, too. If you believe you can get 25+ ppg without him then you should do it. He drives the offense. I'm not certain it's in their best interests to cut him though.

not sure where i stand on this one. while he can be a distraction and selfish, there is no denying his production on this team. I wouldn't be overly in pain either way if he were to stay or go, whatever makes this team better....can this offense produce without hiM? if yes...then i'm for it. it just hasn't shown that it....

I think Owens is affecting Romo's decision making a great deal. Romo needs a clean slate, and a full offseason with WR Roy Williams to get their timing down. I'm calling it right now, if we release Owens, he's going to the Raiders...

That's pretty misleading. Those final 8 games are wildly skewed by his 7 catch 213 yard performance.

The Owens persecution is terribly misguided. Did anyone see TO getting on Romo during the Giants win? Didn't think so.

If these discussions are "serious" they better have good a plan for replacing his production.

Ed Werder has been saying this all year long. It doesn't coincide with anything from Ed Werder.

it was a part of the final 8 games....it doesn't skew his production...it WAS his production...that's like saying well...a certain RB only had 18 carries for 63 yards if you don't count his 70 yard TD run. why would you pick and choose what stats to look at?

I think the status quo will prevail til 2010 and the uncapped year. Then things will get kinda wild.

People have been speculating that he's going to get cut from day one. Nothing new.

Mike Lombardi is actually pretty reliable though. I remember him stating a couple things during the season that actually turned out to be true. There's no bias with this guy like there is with Werder. I think Lombardi most likely talked to someone close in the organization that gave him this info.

Dallas is ready to move on from Owens. The thing this team needs the most is to go under the radar, and build the offense around Romo, and NOT T.O.

I've been a big T.O. supporter, but his production this season could easily be replaced. 8 games under 40 yards receiving? 2 games over 100?

Rely on Wade's "fixed" defense and run the ball. Redesign the offense away from 30 yard vertical plays to slants and outs that favor Williams. Keep Witten healthy. Keep Kosier healthy. More Martellus. More Felix.

Championship ;)

Although I highly doubt this clown has access to the Cowboys "serious" internal discussions anyway. Whose Jerry discussing it with, himself?

I think this would be an unbelievably stupid move.

It's as if we're letting ESPN trim our roster for us.
