Well, BP did say that Carp was the most ready player he could get. That does indicate that he felt carp if not starting would be contributing heavily early on. BUT that was before Ellis turned out so well, and Burnett woke up. take those two out of the equation- which at the time of the draft BP had to- then carp is the right pick. It turns out that other guys stepped up and Carp is not yet there. Maybe he was not as ready as we thought- OR our talent turned out better then we thought.

Actually its the UDFA's that this year have been the real good suprises. They are always considerd a bonus if you strike gold, or even silver.

It does kind of seem that we did not quite strike gold, unlike last years.
Fasano seems like a good value at #2; Hatcher at #3 Ditto. And it does look like McQ could be a real find in the 7th. Whitley - IR- so nothing either way.
BUT
Green
Watkins
Carpenter
have to say that they have been disapointments. Carpenter is the closest to being OK, considering how stacked we are at LB.
We got Montavious back, so maybe that will turn out OK.
Green- just plain bad pick.
Watkins- still hoping but the signs are not good.

But it has helped more than hurt us, so not all that bad. Also, re-evaluate this after next year. No one was brought in to start for us. Except possibly Carpenter, but the emergence of Ellis moved him to the ILB and learning a new position. Watkins was a standout due to lack of competition, was it was more hope that he would play well, than expectation. He will learn. Green, yes, bad picks happen.

How is Carpenter a bust? We have depth at LBer and he is starting to get playing time on a playoff team contending (possibly) for a deep playoff run.

How is Fasano a bust? He has been solid. Certainly we had higher hopes...but one year does not make a career.

Similarily, why is everyone so sure of McQ? He hasn't played this season. That is not to say he can't be something...but as of now, he is nothing more than an inactive player.

Give this draft class time....

Remember how great the 2002 draft class looked? Roy, Gurode, Bryant, Ross, Martin, etc.... We thought we had 5 starters. Roy and Gurode are starters. Bryant is a starter elsewhere. Ross and Martin never panned out.

6 of 7 picks (not including UDFAs) still on the roster. How can you complain?

Ok, so there may not be a superstar in the bunch, but you win w/ depth.

Overall you have to ask yourself how many players from this draft will be on the roster next year. 4 - Carpenter, Watkins, Hatcher and Fasano, possibly McQuistan for depth, that's it!!! I don't think that is a bad draft, not great, but definitely not bad either.

whatever happened to Jr Glymph by the way?
I was hoping he'd stick around because he is a monster at the LB position with, I thought, some passrushing abilities.

How can you judge a draft 12 games into season? What about the 3 year rule that worked for Brady James? Watkins looks like he just needs experience. Carpenter has upside.

Of course one could say that last years draft is not looking so great now. The STEAL, Canty is not developing like we had hoped. Spears is not really playing like a first rd pick. Ware is pretty much what we hoped, but not as many sacks. Barber has done more, but really he is the only one. Burnett is coming on, but still probably less then we had hoped. Petitti is gone.

I don't think your expectations match with the current defensive scheme. My own view is that THe defensive line picks are playing quite well. Spears was ill during the last game and still managed to play. He probably should have stayed in bed with the flu. Let's remember that these guys are not giving up many yards rushing on average and they have been majorly stingy in the red zone. Our draft picks would be snatched up in one big hurry, if they were available. I have no problem with the Dline rotation and it is likely that it's only going to get better. Think hard about who could do better than the Cowboy's defence is doing now and then tell me who would have been a better pick in the last draft.

this draft will not produce any superstars, the best we can hope for is that we drafted some solid and depth players for years to come.

Carpenter is a bust because he's a high first round draft pick. They drafted him to play this year not to sit and watch. Bradie James was not a high first round pick so we could afford to wait and watch him develop.

So no matter what Carpenter does in the future he is a bust? Damn that's rough.

Do you see any progression in his play? I saw more from Danny Noonan. NOW THAT'S ROUGH!

i would say a high 1st rounder would be top 10, Carpenter came a little later:starspin

I asked "no matter what Carpenter does in the future he is a bust?" I'm more concerned about the player developing for the long haul not what he did in year 1. I would agree I want to see #1 picks start as soon as possible but I think it is way too early in his career to claim him as a bust.

Hes barely even played. I don't know how you could even see anything from the few snaps he does get.

No busts just yet although Skyler Green was cut so we may never know about him.

EJ Whitley never made it to camp and is on IR.

McQuistan has not played so we don't know.

Watkins has made mistakes but he has the skills and physique to play.

Jason Hatcher has played like another Jay Ratliff, good rotation pass rusher.

Fasano is a good pass catcher and a rookie blocker who will improve, Witten was lacking in this realm for his first two seasons as well.

Carpenter is playing, nothing flashy but they are putting him in there. Burnett was a "bust" last year, now he is beloved. James was a bust for two years and now is a leader.

Calm down folks. It will be ok.

The 2002 draft was being praised as golden in it's day and now only Roy Williams and Andre Gurode remain, it goes both ways and only time will tell.
