Mid-1st Round, but still expected to START!!! He is getting lost in the shuffle this year. If not for the God-forsaken Ellis injury where would Carp be? Primarily on the bench and ST's. That a very expensive #18 pick. Maybe it's just me, but I expect more from a #18! I guess we'll just have to wait 'till next year.

Hes barely even played. I don't know how you could even see anything from the few snaps he does get.

He's barely playing because he's not doing much to attract attention in practice. Parcells sees this guy everyday. If he showed more he would be playing more.

He looks soft.

I was refering to his injury during training camp, but it wasn't a break just cartiladge damage requiring arthroscopic surgery.

Premature evaluation is always funny.

Indeed it is funny, but necessary sometimes. Especially with a costly #1 draft pick.

:laugh2:

I guess it would depend on how blue they are as to it being necessary.

Again, how can we evaluate someone after 12 games....?

Actually it wasn't 12 games, it was less. He was inactive for a couple of games. Which doesn't help his case.

There is a reason Parcells is a head coach and Jeff Ireland is a scout...

Carpenter is a bust because he's a high first round draft pick. They drafted him to play this year not to sit and watch. Bradie James was not a high first round pick so we could afford to wait and watch him develop.
By your definition, Troy Polamalu is a bust. :lmao2:

It does kind of seem that we did not quite strike gold, unlike last years.
Fasano seems like a good value at #2; Hatcher at #3 Ditto. And it does look like McQ could be a real find in the 7th. Whitley - IR- so nothing either way.
BUT
Green
Watkins
Carpenter
have to say that they have been disapointments. Carpenter is the closest to being OK, considering how stacked we are at LB.
We got Montavious back, so maybe that will turn out OK.
Green- just plain bad pick.
Watkins- still hoping but the signs are not good.

It is WAAAY to early to assess the impact of this draft class. outside of green (since he is no longer on the team) the rest of the picks could possibly turn out to be anywhere from probowlers to TC fodder over the next 3 years. Whatever happened to: letting a player develop, go through the off season training program, get a year of NFL speed under the belt and understand the complexities of playing in the NFL before designating a player a wasted pick or bust. Players develop at different speeds; some don't develop at all. But this is something you cannot tell after only 12 games. :bang2:

If it were up to all of the instant gratification Fans, Romo wouldn't be our starter today.

I agree the 3 year rule is the best way to go, 20 years ago... most of the day 2 draft picks sign 3 yr contracts and test the market after year 3 anyway look at Kosier...

if u think Jerry and Bill are not evaluating these guys from day 1 you are sadly mistaken! Look at the Iggs they extend guys before year 3 on a regular basis I guess they dont subscribe to the 3 yr theory.

so lets do the 3 yr test on the 04 draft... Oh wait a minute, only 2 guys remain from that draft class and this is only 12 games into year 3.... SO I GUESS BILL DIDNT GET THE 3 yr. MEMO, either!

3 years is a joke... these rookies have 1 year to show something to the coaching staff pending on their draft/money status they may get 2, first round picks get 3yrs pending position but they must start right away!

Hey, but iIts okay to draft poorly when you are winning... see the boys 94 & 95 draft!

Of course one could say that last years draft is not looking so great now. The STEAL, Canty is not developing like we had hoped. Spears is not really playing like a first rd pick. Ware is pretty much what we hoped, but not as many sacks. Barber has done more, but really he is the only one. Burnett is coming on, but still probably less then we had hoped. Petitti is gone.
I think you are way off base here. It's still early, but last year's draft produced an impact player (Ware), two starters (Canty & Spears), and three solid backup players (Barber, Burnett, and Ratliff). I would take that type of draft every year. If you want to criticize a Parcells draft, you should bring up the 2004 draft.

Really? So Ireland should be fired for drafting Skylar Green in the 4th round? Can you ask Jeff Ireland what his reason was to draft Green in the 4th? I apprieciate it. I'll wait for your response fellow couch poster.

This year's draft definitely is not as great as we all believed.

Carp: I am Ok with the pick just because he was indeed a good value when we drafted. No one can predict he could not beat out a UDFA for active roster spot. Please do not make Bradie James comparsion. Bradie was a fourth rounder and Carp was drafted in the first round!!! Wimbley/SIms of course are light years ahead of him. Even Ryans of Texas is better now.

Fasano: a wasted pick here. McNeil was the guy some of us wanted and we got cuter and traded down. SD took him and he looked like the best player coming out of the whole draft. Normally, if you draft A TE this high, you expect a lot from him (Witten was a 3rd round).

Hatcher: a good pick. really happy with the progress. I think he will be on starting lineup soon.

Green: well, he got cut

Watkins: have all the tools and lack the instincts. Gave up long TDs almost every time he started. But he is a fifth rounder....

I would give our draft a C- right now. Without Hatcher, it would be a F.

yeah, it is still the first season, but you normally at least expect some high draft picks start to show some promises.

Exactly right as usual Vintage.

They're a bust when they get waived and haven't done anything. Until then I expect a learning curve. The kid will be fine.

Where did I say Ireland should be fired for drafting Green?

What I said is there is a reason he is a scout and Parcells is a coach...
