Looks Like The Bears Have A Little Mess Brewing

I think this is bad news more so for Cedric Benson than the Bears.. If you think that a second rate over-hyped draft bust is going to distract Chicago or "tear their team apart" then you are buying into the ESPN made-for-TV BS idea of disgruntled players tearing a team apart.. every single time a player opens his mouth with something negative to say he's "throwing his teammates under the bus" (IMO one of the worst cliches in sports right now).

What's it going to be then, eh?

You are correct.

What the Giants have is a "mess".

What the Bears have is a disgruntled backup who cannot get on the field.

I believe there is a difference.

I agree. If there QB could keep his head where the sun shines and not turn the ball over, they are as good as any AFC team.

Benson was way over-rated at Texas and he's continued that in the pros. He never showed up for big games in College and he almost never shows up for any game in the NFL. He shouldn't even be playing at all, really. He kind of reminds me of Troy Hambrick.

Horns hater alert...

For the record, in his final college season, Benson played six games against teams that were then ranked in the top 25-- Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Michigan... in those games, he combined for 786 yards rushing on 168 carries, 117 yards receiving on 12 catches, and scored 9 TDs... that's 905 yards in total offense in those six games, an average of over 150 yards a game, and 1.5 TDs per game...

I'd say that's "showing up for big games in College"...

Calling a guy who ranked 6th on the NCAA's all-time rushing list (while playing in one of the nation's best football conferences} "overrated" is pretty close to idiotic...

As for his lack of production in the NFL, I'd say that's more because of Thomas Jones gaining 2330 yards in his last 26 games than any lack of talent on Cedric's part... Jones is currently one of the league's top 6 rushers, it's kinda hard to put that kind of production on the bench...

However, I remain confident that if the Bears ever needed him to start for them, he'd be quite effective...

The problem is, it's being misused these days... when TO goes off on Garcia or McNabb, suggesting those QBs were at the root of the team's problems, and more specifically, of his own problems, that's "throwing a player under the bus"...

But when a backup growls that he should be getting more reps ahead of the starter, that's just b**ching about playing time... those are two rather different things...

I watched Cold Pizza this morning, and it looks like fate might be on our side, and that this year just might be our year. The 2 biggest challengers to the Cowboys seem to be having friction at just the right time. Cedric Benson is in Chicago running his mouth and throwing people under the bus. He's complaining about not playing more and getting enough carries, and said that the Bears staff is making up excuses to keep him off the field. He also said that he and Thomas Jones are definately not friends. They even had a few words exchanged.

On a side note, look for a PO'd Vikings team to get after them this week, especially with Rex Grossman talking trash to them.

I have a very good contact in the Bears organization who says they might be willing to play Benson more except that he hasn't learned the offense well enough. He runs very well, maybe better than Jones, but you can't count on him to know where to go and how to read adjustments. They also don't think he's a team player and, clearly, he's given them plenty of reason to think that. He's divisive in the locker room.

He certainly is trying to divide their locker room.

Omce again, the issue (from a very reliable, knows the scoop source) is that he cannot pick up the complexities of the offense and cannot figure things out on the fly (adjustments). He's viewed by most in the Bears organization as a talented guy whose dedication to "paying his dues" by learning the system is just not there. He wans to get by on innate talent and his draft spot. He thinks he got drafted high so they owe it to him to play him - even if he doesn't do a lot of what they need him to do.

No one questions what he did in college - after all, they did draft him pretty high - but there aren't a whole lot of Missouri's and Texas A&M's in the NFL. He hasn't elevated his game much since they drafted him.

THAT is what has been keeping him on the bench.

Benson is garbage. I had him pegged for a bust, and he isn't disappointing.
