Looks to me as if Colombo is a goner...

I'd say stong, and since he was coming off rehab i'd have to say this year he will be better.

To me, his injury history is a reason to be very cautious about a long term/big deal. I do agree that if he stays healthy, he has better upside than some.

At this point if Columbo won't settle for a reasonable amount. I'd go with Davis at RT and Proctor/draft pick/alternative FA at guard.

I agree. If Blalock is still around at 22nd (and nothing better for the oline) then I would pick him up. If he shown the athletic ability to play tackle, then he should be a pretty good guard. Moving Davis to right tackle and letting Proctor and Blalock fight for the guard would be the best option in my eyes. Flozell is going to be expensive next year, and I don't think we should lose him. If we pay Columbo this year, it may put Flozell completely out of range.

Davis is not a good tackle. he is serviceable. Speed rushers eat him up. Which is no suprise considering his size.

I presented this scenario in the thread I started the other day. If Colombo gets away, I think signing UFA Cosey Coleman to play RG, would be our best option right now. Davis was not a very good LT in Arizona, simply because of his size at 366lbs. However, I think he can handle the RT position as good, if not better than Colombo did last year.

Laughable. You've been completely refuted so maybe saying your case is dead would be more appropriate.

Better re-read the responses before you weigh in big guy. A couple of naive folks think Colombo well settle for peanuts, many more of us think otherwise. Time will tell who is right. Let's hope those who end up being wrong will take their medicine. LOL.

Agreed. Interesting how some around here think he is "much better" then Colombo. LOL.
Let's hope Mr. Davis starts playing with a little heart and doesn't end up being complacent due to a fat contract. :laugh2:

Why wouldn't he try to get that? Davis got that much and you think his body of underacheveing work deserves that much, Colombo had a better year last year than Davis, and that's usually what matters most, what has a player done lately.

Exactly my point. Some around here seem a bit naive about this situation.

Sorry, I thought you were the same guy who said if you gain one OL but lose another it's a wash. That was the lunatic I was referring to.

LT is far different that RT.

While I would not want Davis at LT, I think he can be superior to Colombo at RT.

OK, I went back and re-read a lot of posts. Didn't see one that said we should pay Colombo peanuts (or chicklets for that matter). Just that he should be paid what he is worth and not overpaid out of desperation.

Oh really? Now you are going to start name calling? Did you even post your opinion, or were you too busy thinking of something insulting to say??
Signing Davis only to lose Colombo would be the lunatic move. To think otherwise is absurd and naive.
It sure is hard to see the forests through all those trees, is it not? LOL. :lmao2:

Colombo has little to no leverage at this point and he's finding that out right now. One decent year of playing the RT position, simply does not deserve a huge contract and signing bonus. Not one GM is going to forget his injury history and how long it took him to come back.

I think everyone has a right to an opinion and to express it here, but it's rather pathetic to think your opinion is the right one and insult others when you are merely setting yourself up as being superior to the coaches and front office people who signed Davis.

Whether he is better than Colombo or not, or even whether he is projected to play there is besides the point. These guys are paid to make these decisions...it's one thing to play Monday-Morning QB, but it's ridiculous to think you know better than Jerry Jones or Wade Phillips, or anyone who actually makes his living in the NFL.

So I guess it was you who said that. Oops...sorry. When I referred to the poster as being a lunatic, I thought it was clear my opinion was that the proposition is absurd....but let me help you. The proposition that signing one OL while losing another is a wash is absurd. Another poster made the point well, if we sign LT but traded Julius to get him, would you consider that a wash? Absurd.

Watch out for the falling trees professor.

I agree. Of course Jerry (and his people) have made mistakes but I gurantee when making a $50 million decision it is given a lot of consideration. They have a lot more information and game tape than posters on this board. The bottom line is, if they thought Columbo had equal value to Davis, they would have given him the money they gave Davis (minus a small home town discount). If the plan is Davis to G, they also know how negotiations with Columbo are going and how many alternatives are available to take his spot for the same money.

Jeff Ireland just said that they Cowboys want Colombo back and the Davis signing won't stop it.

Nobody outside of the organization has any clue about McQuistan. To think he will be ready is wishful thinking. They said this guy only had (what?) three years of playing experience. I think it will take a bit more time for him to become a viable option. Though I could be wrong, but like I said. Noone outside the organization actually knows. To have the physical abilities is one thing, to actually know how to use them is a different thing all together.
