Lowber VS Amendola?

It will come down to who tackles better. The guy who makes more plays on Special Teams is the guy who will be kept, barring any signing the Cowboys might make. Both have had a TO, so to speak in the pre-season. Amendola because of a fumble on a return and Lowber because he failed to complete his route. I suspect the next game might be the telling one but I guess we will see. I do agree, however, that TL is more likely to make a practice squad then is DA. DA can play now and TL can not.

ABQ, it was Danny. I've watched it several times in slowmo.

Danny #18 goes across the middle, then cuts back towards the outside. The LB is all over his back on his outside shoulder. That's why Danny stopped and cut back towards the middle again. This was to late because Bartel was already releasing the ball.

I think the staff needs to play these young WRs with Romo to see what they have. It's hard to judge these young WRs with limited reps with lesser quality QB play.

Also, I wonder why Babe kept saying it was Lowber?

Amendola is a tiny little guy...I guess if he's better keep him but Lowber has more talent.

danny amendola: 5'11", 183 pounds (according to dallascowboys.com)

tiny little guy, huh? like these guys?

pro bowler steve smith: 5'9", 185 pounds

12-year veteran derrick mason: 5'10", 192 pounds

wes welker: 5'9", 185 pounds

there are more examples...

i do agree that success for wide receivers of this build is rare, BUT -- i only ask this about amendola: can he get open and make plays? if the answer is yes, then i don't care what he measures on a scale or on a stopwatch. if no, then i don't care if he's 6'6" and 235 with 4.30 speed.

we'll see.

With the way Garrett was giving him props on Hard Knocks, I can see teams that can use a project WR picking Lowber up easy.

If they do, they have to put him on their 53 to keep him.

Lowber was the WR, I thought, but I do agree, that was all on the WR. He was trying to make a play but the reality of that situation was a question of experience. Down on the goal line like that, your not going to have enough time to make three moves. The QB has to get rid of the ball. Just not enough time for that kind of play and an experience WR probably knows this. It's not anybodies fault really. Lowber/Amedola hasn't played enough football and Bartel made the right play. Ironically, we didn't need the TD in that situation. We only needed a 1st down. If Lowber continues to run that route, regardless of where the LB is, he still has a chance to make the play. In order to break up that pass, the LB has to go through the WR. If Lowber/Amedola continues with that route, the LB, if he times it right, probably has to rely on the hit to seperate the ball. More times then not, you see a flag on that play. LB matched up against WR is a tough matchup.

ABQ, just put the game on again (watching it on a 65" HD Mitsubishi TV) and Danny #18, white guy, is at the 7 yard line with 2:26 left on the game clock, he is getting ready to cut back to the middle and screw up the play.

But you are correct about if he continues to the sideline, he would of had a chance to make a catch or draw a penalty due to the very decorative/fashionable LB he has draped across his back. :D

EDIT: I just saw the "I thought" in the beginning of your reply, didn't register at first, my bad.

If I'm being honest, I haven't seen Amendola do a darn thing, even against 3rd teamers and he was on the field plenty the other day.

It's time to see Amendola catch more than 1 ball, and Lowber catch more than 1 ball or I'd like to see them both on the PS.

These guys could play with Romo and he'd never throw to 'em. I'm thinking if Witten's in the game, he's going there all day.

WG, good point.

Maybe bench Witten, let a backup TE play (not Curtis, Bennett, Hannan), hmm the 5th stringer, white dude, can't remember his name. This should free up some opportunities for our young WRs. :D

Lowber has it in spades. They need to let this kid have a chance to grow up into a terror. Speed like Hayes, smooth, catches the ball and adjusts well, and wants to play bad. I just don't know how to force him onto the team. If he can play STs then they might have room.

Amendola is quick. He needs to learn how to play STs and produce in a game. I would have played this kid with Romo for a series at least in both games. Guess that's why I'm not the coach (anywhere). They need to know if he can help now because I don't see him helping on STs.

Both will likely go to the PS. Jerry has to be looking at picking up a WR. Not saying he will get one but he's working on it.

I don't think so, but the case for Amendola could depend on Adam Jones suspension. If he is not released from it until after one of more regular season games, Dallas must have people who can return punts when Jones is not available. Amendola can do that.

Lowber has WAY more potential than Amendola

We've been consumed with this type of WR 4ever it seems like. We are in "win now mode". They need to get these young WRs some quality reps to determine if any of them are feasible for our immediate goals.

This is a tough one but I'm inclined to agree that what Lowber is missing is something that can be coached into him where as Danny is missing things that simply can't be coached into a player.

it's a tough call, at this point, so I'm not sure which way they should go. I need at least one more preseason game, with them both getting some significant reps, to decide.
