Lowber VS Amendola?

I'd say at this point, Lowber is the lesser unknown of the two and more likely easier to slip onto the practice squad.

I was told by a friend( seriously) of Zach Thomas in Miami that if we drop Lowber, Miami will grab him. They really like this kid.

This is surprising? They're likely waiting to see who all Dallas cuts so that they can sign them all up.

IDK

You cant teach what Amendola lacks, you can teach what Lowber lacks

Can you teach it??

I am not so sure you can.
A guy like Jerry Rice had it, Michael Irvin had it.

It takes thousands of reps before most guys even show a sliver of it.
We have had dozens of WRs come though here who were tall and fast. Most of them couldn't even play on Arena League teams.

WR is a "skill" position. It is not just about measurables. That's why the first round bust rate on WRs is so high. And why it takes 2 or 3 years before most of them do anything in the NFL at all.

Oh you know the Big Tuna is waiting to add to his South Dallas squad.

I guess we kinda owe him one for the Zach Machine now in our presence.

Lowber has WAY more potential than Amendola

That is prolly what teams thought when they cut Welker....

Lowber still has to show he can play football. His "potential" is about that of any track guy. And the record of those players in the NFL is pure crap.

Drew Henson had more potential than Tony Romo... but one of those 2 guys could and had played football while the other hadn't.

First things first, give me a football player.

just b/c hes white doesnt mean hes Welker

A lot of teams passed on T.O. bc he was a raw athletic freak but played nobody in college and needed work. Each case is different.

If we go w/ Lowber it doesnt mean we kicked Rudy in the nuts.

TO played ball at pretty much every level. You can not compare Lowber to TO. Lowber is a Basketball player, who has never played football till very recently, trying to make an NFL team because of his tremendous natural talent. TO was a raw WR who needed to learn the pro game and made the next step. Totally different things IMO.

So did Antonio Gates. Im not saying Lowber is Gates or T.O., but you can absolutely teach him the position like SD did w/ Gates.

Amendola will never be fast, strong, tall ect. He has a tough time getting open.

Lowber reminds me a little of Miles Austin last year.

Lowber has tons of upside, but how many WR projects can we keep on our roster. Austin and Hurd are still transitioning. Stanbach needs more time.

We need more WR depth (a person who has had good production at the WR position). High or low ceiling, it shouldn't matter because we need it now.

I was at training camp this year. By far from what I saw Amendola seems to be a better prospect. Despite his game performances, he was solid in camp.

That sounds like intent to me; where are the legal eagles when we need them?

I don't think so, but the case for Amendola could depend on Adam Jones suspension. If he is not released from it until after one of more regular season games, Dallas must have people who can return punts when Jones is not available. Amendola can do that.

:star:

PR is probably the only place he can play on STs. And we have guys that are locks on the squad that are better at it. I don't see him as a gunner. There are faster and quicker guys to try to block punts and FGs. He's really too small to play on KOs.

Where do you put him?

Unless he can play STs or break into the top 4 WRs he's not on the active roster. I love the kid. He wants to play and has some talent. I just don't know if its enough.

Lowber is fast enough to tell them he's going to run a go and get open. Mr. Garrett was right about that. Not just some old guy running his mouth. He's that fast and more importantly he's so smooth at it. That's important at that kind of speed. If he didn't have that speed and skills he'd never be looked at much less be in TC with anyone. Hard to ignore it. Faster than Galloway was.

But you're right. We need to win now. They have to find a way to do that and still look to the future. Going to be some very difficult cuts with players ending up elsewhere and some making the 53 there.

Was Romo ever on the practice squad or was he always on the active roster?

I believe active roster only. The only reason he was able to stay on the active roster is because the Cowboys cut Q-Car for drug use. If he hadn't gotten busted, then Romo would have dropped to the Practice Squad and subsequently picked up by the Broncos or some other team.

Yeah. So why did Bill keep ole Tony on the roster all that time? He has no patience for rookie QBs. Unless of course he sees something there.

When we are having Lowber versus Amendola roster decisions this team is screeching back to 2000-2002 form.

I want neither.
