They aren’t remotely the same IMO. OSA was a physical specimen for his size. Overton is just a tweener.

And OSA was a pass rusher and not good vs the run. Over is good against the run and not much against the pass.

This is a wild thread. Overton's ceiling is likely a situational guy, rotational type. And for a 4th round pick, that's not bad.

I think the hope is Tyrone Crawford.

Not bad to have as a 4th/5th best Dlineman.

I don’t think that’s what it is…..that’s hyperbolic…..it’s people simply talking about what they think about a specific genre of music…it’s not about any particular group of people as a whole or anything. Music is take it or leave it for EVERYONE…..I like gangster rap AND trance (progressive trance and progressive house) and 80s music lol, go figure.

I still listen to rap from the early 90’s when things were more wholesome, I jam the Geto Boys almost everyday at the gym. Songs like Gangsta of Love that really hit home and brought out those warm fuzzy feelings, they sure don’t make songs like that anymore.

I grew up on 90s rap (still listen to it)….last thing I would call it was wholesome lol! Scarface (“the Diary” was amazing), Spice 1, C-Bo, Dj Quik, Eazy-E etc…..lots of swear words and references to guns as u mentioned. Beats in the 90s were unbeatable too. Yeah, it went downhill late 90s and beyond for the most part imo….but I still bump a lot of the early-mid 90s stuff.

Lol, I can’t believe you’re the only one who “got” it. I listen to everything and am more of a metalhead at heart but I really do jam the Geto Boys an even wear their shirt of the mug shots which is the cover of my favorite album of theirs.

Hahah…yeah, they’re the furthest thing from wholesome. Horrorcore rap, lol. Willie D turns 60 in November and there’s some kind of roast for him in Houston, I’d love to see that. Based on the pictures I’ve seen he looks great for his age.

If they keep him around he can work on his strength but he was getting folded out there.

I’m not gonna cry over a Day 3 pick but in the 4th round, I want a guy with traits or high upside (ex. Devin Moore) and that’s not Overton. He’s a poor to middling (at best) athlete without significant production. His biggest claim to fame is that he played at Bama which is why folks by default think we got some sorta steal.

Yeah he did get moved some for sure. It’s early though. I’m going to give him some time and see how he develops.

Like you said, he’s just a 4th so not that big a deal. He is built for power so hopefully he’ll eventually be good in a rotation as a run stopper.

LT seems strong enough. He isn’t athletic. Decent 40 time.

Osa is a great comparison for Overton. And if he can be that good of a player..he will be a steal.

And yes he did say that and he is correct Not only this dude ,I mean OSA was a really good pass rusher but weak in the run game, he was being overpaid for being demoted that's what he would have been ended up being a rotational guy, that's why they made the change. not because OSA was bad not because OSA wasn't better than this guy because he is,

but he no longer fit they saw an opportunity to save a little money, pick up a draft pick, and build out their over 10 but don't forget Ogbonnia and then fill it out with Toia.

I've watched some reps from training camp and whatnot Don't sleep on QWS real backup, that would be Ogbannia, I think over 10 would be backing up Clark and sometimes he has the ability to go outside and play Gary's position and vice versa they got a lot of position flex That's why they rebuilt the defensive line especially interior to fit Parker OSA just didn't fit that at his cost..

He’s not particularly good against the run. You’re saying that because he’s a middling as a pass rusher. Sorta the same way every unathletic QB is by default made into a “savvy intelligent” quarterback.

- In that position he was a very good run defender.
- Obviously, nobody projected him as an elite Edge pass rusher in the NFL.
- His quickness relative to other DTs is decent.
- He was a tweener in the draft.
- Either a 3-tech on a 4-man DL or 3-4 DE in the NFL.
- For a few schemes he might project to the 2024 Chauncey Golston role of run stopping 4-man DE.
- Golston managed to get a 3-year, 18M contract out of that.

Tweeners in the draft:
- Often either a bargain or over-drafted.
- Shotty talked all off-season about the 4i position.
- It's generally between a 4-man DE and a DT.

Osa Odighizuwa
- Not a terrible run defender but would get worn down.
- Was visibly better in run defense when they had a good 1-tech next to him.
- Played 3-4 DE in college.
- Might have been a good fit as a 3-4 DE on run downs that moves to 3-tech on passing downs.
- Back in 2017, the Rams brought in Wade Phillips and played Aaron Donald at 3-4 DE in base.
- That kept AD from wearing down having to fight double-teams in run defense.
- He still played 3-tech on passing downs where he dominated.

I think Overton showed a lot more playing snaps inside than he does on the outside, where he gets manhandled by OTs and not being asked to run the arc.

I think in a lot of ways he’s like Shelton in that he needs to work on his functional playing strength in general. Bama probably has a weight room comparable to any NFL team but my suspicions are he probably wasn’t hitting it like he should have been.

People keep saying the bolded...but of course he is quicker considering the fact that he's 30 lbs lighter than most of them. Does he hold the same quickness at 295?

Golston was light too but he was taller, longer, and tested a lot better.
