No one dogs Jim Brown for running behind a great O-Line but he did. 3 HoFers in Mike McCormack, Lou Groza and Gene Hickerson plus 2 others who went to 5 or more Pro-Bowls in Jim Ray Smith and Dick Schafrath. Both John Morrow and John Wooten went to 2 Pro-Bowls each and Art Hunter once. These were all well known OLs back in the early 60s and even though Groza went into the HoF partly as a kicker he was also a Pro-Bowl caliber OT and went in mostly for that.

Barry Sanders didn't run behind his O-Line anyway, which always frustrated them. Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover were outstanding players so it's not like he had no one in front of him.

You know one of the best stats to throw out and quiet the Jim Brown people is that Emmitt matched Jim Brown's record of scoring his 100th TD in his 93rd game. Emmitt did it playing against defenses where everyone except the corners was bigger than him. Jim Brown did it when he was bigger than most defensive lineman he faced.

There is no question that Emmitt would do better in Brown's era than Brown would do in Emmitt's era. Brown also was nowhere near the receiver or blocker that Emmitt was.

Oh, and for the Barry crowd. Even if Barry had kept playing, Emmitt would have still beaten him out for the rushing TD record. Emmitt always kicked Barry's *** in the scoring TDs category.

People forget just how outstanding Emmitt was as a blocker. IMO the best non-FB blocking back of all-time. To be a primary runner and a devastating blocker is an unusual combination but that was Emmitt.

For 7 years Emmitt averaged 52 receptions (not counting his rookie year) but then in 1998 they cut back to 27 and it dwindled from there. He and Moose were a big part of the passing game during our heyday from 1991-1997.

I believe that his receiving numbers went down when our O-Line started to have some injuries and they needed to give Aikman more time to throw so they kept Emmitt in to block on passing downs.

Beginning in 1998 we had Clay Shiver at Center and Everett McIver at RG. We still had Allen at LT, Newton at LG, and Big-E at RT but the middle of the line was pretty weak. It got worse after that with guys like Solomon Page and Kelvin Garmon starting along the O-Line.
