Linebacker John Roper discovered Monday that taking a nap during film sessions can be fatal to employment with the Dallas Cowboys.

Coach Jimmy Johnson cut the fifth-year linebacker from Texas A&M, who was obtained from Chicago in a preseason trade.

Roper, who had drawn praise from Johnson for his effort in previous games, was put on the inactive list for Sunday's 26-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

Johnson caught Roper asleep during a special teams meeting Friday. "John didn't fit in," Johnson said. "He's a good football player and has the ability to make plays, but we expect certain things from our players. The chemistry on this team is very important."

We have all seen the pics that have been released of Jerry and his adventures off the field. This doesn't phase him at all. It's his team making more headlines. Good or bad, he loves the Cowboys in the news. He doesn't have to clean up after the mess. He leaves that to the people who run the day to day and handling the PR. He sits back and enjoys the circus. And if it is ever quiet, he will make sure to open his mouth to create a story or controversy. His team is the most polarizing, richest team in any sport in the world. Making money hand over fist.

Jerry won with a lot of questionable characters in the 90s. He does not care at all about what you are off the field. Hence why he takes so many chances on these guys like Lawrence, Gregory and Hardy. Heck, even Pacman Jones.
It also doesn't help that his attitude has basically gotten him the most valuable pro sports franchise in America.

I don't see why they would even let Whitehead practice. I would be asking for his playbook, like right now.
But the other side of coin .......how can ask for Lucky's playbook when D Wilson is still on the team? Just asking.........

You can always use the excuse that it depends on the quality of the player and well, Wilson is technically a starter.

If they let a no talent bum like Whitehead slide, then pretty much everyone is safe.

Garrett is no less of a puppet than Phillips.

He has every chance to put his stamp on this team and John Roper this player.

But he won't, mainly because he can't.

I just don't ever want to hear him talking about character again.
But dont show up wearing the right clothes and you're a goner. Figure that out.

Very true. Check out this quote from Garrett after Corey White was cut.

“We evaluate our players every minute of every day. We evaluate our players in meetings, in walk throughs, on the practice field, the opportunity to get in games, how they interact with their teammates. The body of work of each of those guys. We evaluate all of it. At some point you say we feel like we like we should give someone else the opportunity to have this privilege to be a Dallas Cowboy. That is what we did in both of those cases. The decisions were made in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys”.

I think Switzer was drafted in part because he is a good player and in part because the organization knew Lucky was a problem. Seldom does stuff like this come out of the blue.

Ok, well, all Lucky has going for him his how he interacts. Every single other thing Garrett is preaching here Lucky has failed. He sucks on the field, east-west runner on returns, didnt show up to practice last year and was left at home, now this? If the team has known this whole time, no way he gets cut. Maybe if they cut him the second they found out, Zeke wouldn't be out cracking DJ's in the face, and Wilson thinks twice about how important that parking spot was. Its getting to the point now where they may need to cut a starter just to make a point to these idiots.

He has to run east west on the jet sweep before running upfield. He turned the corner plenty of times though. He also is not afraid to run through traffic on punt returns despite his diminutive size. The issue is that he fumbles the ball and does not run very good routes. It limits him when it doesn't make him a liability.

That being said he does have game breaking speed and is young. I just find this entire exercise an interesting study on group dynamics. The transference of the desire for punitive action is sad if cliche.

Relax people, he hasn't even been convicted yet and everyone is already yelling to cut him. If this was Zeke, the excuses would range from "he was set up" to "he hasn't been proven guilty yet". Talking about the pot calling the kettle black, I see a lot of the same people calling the Zeke nonsense a "witch hunt" but are now wanting Lucky to be cut without knowing all the facts. SMH.
