And the final straw was cutting him because they thought he committed a crime that he actually didn't and was refuted within hours of cutting him.

So yeah, they look like a monkey humping a football here. Is Lucky still in Oxnard today if the accusation is never made? Of course he is.

They used a false accusation to finally dump him. And then when it breaks across the country that the Cowboys just cut a guy for a crime he didn't commit (while keeping others who actually did have off the field problems) the Cowboys started leaking the stuff about other issues with Lucky because they knew they had messed up and look bad.

If they're leaking info that's dumb. Just say "we cut him because we wanted to". No more mamby-pamby.

Jimmy openly said "I don't treat all players the same", implying star players got special treatment.

Send Lucky to the GD (Gosh Darn) Asthma field already and move on.

Were you around back then to see how a real winner (Jimmy) handles business?

Did poor ole Curvin Richards deserve another chance? Answer: We won Super Bowls. I don't care what happened to Curvin Richards.

Unless injuries occur, there is zero chance Lucky was going to make the team.

The continued defense using how Jimmy Johnson would handle business is bizarrely funny because it's completely irrelevant to what's happened here. Also, the fact Lucky would have struggled to make the team anyway is completely irrelevant. As I said above, if Lucky had been cut a week ago, it's not big deal.

But when the organization makes a decision to cut a guy because they think he committed a crime and hours later he did no such thing, that's a bad PR look. It just is.

PS - What does Richards have to do with this? Johnson cut him because he said he fumbled too much. If the Cowboys cut Lucky because he fumbled too much, that's valid. But when you cut a guy because you think he committed a crime when he hadn't, that's a bad PR look. That's my only point.

The distraction was real. It was the result of a false accusation. I'm not spinning anything.

They released him for a pattern of behavior that included them not believing his story about the arrest warrant. That's sufficient reason to cut your 5th receiver who was a roster long shot in the first place. Whatever is in the best interest of the team. He isn't owed a roster spot.

The distraction was not real. It's a contrived excuse to justify the fact the Cowboys made a PR blunder. They cut a guy for committing a crime that he didn't actually commit. The fact the Cowboys didn't believe Lucky and literally two hours after they cut him the story breaks that he wasn't likely involved is an even worse look.

Isn't Wilson's crime also a "distraction"?

Funny I seen from a local source saying different. Will see if I can find the link but I'm at work.

I could be wrong by misreading or read an earlier report. Eitherway he missed a condition test....not like he missed the flight to training camp or didn't show up

Not "either way", you claimed "he was excused". He wasn't.

You are making arguments that I am not arguing. I don't have an issue with the concept of Lucky being cut. Frankly, as I said earlier, I assumed he was a goner once Switzer started lighting it up in OTAs, etc. I don't have an issue with certain players getting different treatment given their status on a team. Honestly, I don't have an issue with cutting a guy to try to send a message to other players.

My only issues here are that the process of cutting Lucky was simply bad PR and then the justifications after the fact from the team and fans (like saying Lucky had to be cut becaue he was a distraction as if Wilson being accused of assault and brandishing a gun isn't a "distraction").

IMO, the Cowboys should have waited for the facts, then cut him based on merit down the road. Because now, any positive PR they were trying to get and any message they were trying to send to the team is gone as everyone now knows they cut a guy for a crime he didn't actually commit.

I don't believe the Cowboys think it's false information. How can a guy instantly recite your social security number and birthday who happens to look like you? I think the Cowboys believe there is an association with this guy.

If and when facts come out in support of that claim? I will gladly apologize and stand corrected. But until then, it's worthless.

Likewise, the police are investigating about the dog situation, too. Who holds a dog ransom for $20,000?

All in 2-3 week span?

Impossibly weird.

Very weird. And reason enough to move on. Valid reason. But they didn't. They chose not to, and you can't use it as an excuse now.

This is, of course, completely untrue.

What's actually happening is you're barking at shadows again, and don't like me pointing it out.

What are you "pointing out"? That you're a fan who thinks they have to rally in defense of their team. Well done. That's proven.

Explain to everyone the "shadows" and what's "completely untrue"? Back up your baseless talk in defense of the team's obvious screwup?

I've got the facts of what happened supporting my position, you've got hearsay and wishful thinking.

Like you think it's your job.

How can you suggest the distraction wasn't real? Of course it was real. It was the result of an erroneous charge, but that doesn't change the fact that the team and coaches spent the start of camp talking about Lucky Whitehead yet again and dealing with an unnecessary distraction from the team goal of putting a team together.

Wilson's crime was and will continue to be a huge distraction. The difference is, up to this point at least, Wilson's ability trumps the drama that comes with keeping him on the roster. Lucky wasn't a good enough player--and the team had already drafted his replacement anyway--for that to be the case.

I don't think it's worthless because the guy has a terrible track record. I don't sympathize with "always a problem" guys.

The Cowboys didn't botch this. The police did. And the Cowboys are tired of the knucklehead anyway.

This thread is proof why the media continues to put Cowboy scandals in the front section of their news. People just eat it up even if it's stupid. 2 weeks ago nobody cared if Lucky was on the team or not and now it's proof of the Cowboys incompetence. lol

Again, the "distraction" wasn't Lucky's fault.

I mean seriously, are you really suggesting that being falsely accused of a crime is that person's fault?

This is all it's about but at this point on both sides we just have to agree to disagree. We have our views and other people have theirs and it's not changing. I do truly hope those on the other side feel the same way irl as they do in this instance on here.

No offense, but this is silly.

The reason this particular story has gotten a lot of press is because the COWBOYS CUT A GUY FOR A CRIME THAT HE DIDN'T EVEN COMMIT.

You are right. No one would care if Lucky was cut 2 weeks ago. Because at that time, cutting him was probably a roster/merit move more than anything.

But the fact they cut him immediately after the news breaks that he committed a crime AND THEN a couple of hours after cutting him, it comes out he wasn't even in the state when the crime happened, that's going to be a story.

And I'm not asking you to. As I've said numerous times, the guy deserved to be cut last year. What he nor anyone else deserve is to be cut based off of false information and uninformed, knee-jerk reactions.

It's funny that the same people who like Tom think they sit on high horses and chastise fans for knee-jerk reactions are now stripping their gears putting it in reverse when the Cowboys did exactly the same thing.

Oh the irony!

The Cowboys didn't botch this. The police did. And the Cowboys are tired of the knucklehead anyway.

They both botched it. At least I can admit it.

Who cares if he's on the team? Why do some of y'all come up with faux facts when that's not the case? You can't find one person who wasn't joking say they cared if he's on the team so find something that's actually true to keep posting. This whole thing is about the looks that's what's being discussed not him actually being on the roster as some great player.

Apparently so.

Remember that if you ever have a credit card ID stolen. You were just asking for it by having one in the first place!

The Cowboys can really only go by what the police reports says.

Look, there are 40 guys in Oxnard that are already cut. They're camp bodies. Lucky was a camp body this year. And camp bodies aren't worth the trouble of dognapping and false arrest drama.

Also, the fact Lucky would have struggled to make the team anyway is completely irrelevant. As I said above, if Lucky had been cut a week ago, it's not big deal.

It is irrelevant to your argument and unimportant to what you (and those that are upset by the move) are saying. That doesn't make it right to be this upset by it. Had it been a player that was important to the team, they wouldn't have cut him without having all the facts. You know that's what they'd do because they do it all the time. Thus, they didn't cut him because of his shoplifting alone.

But when the organization makes a decision to cut a guy because they think he committed a crime and hours later he did no such thing, that's a bad PR look. It just is.

People don't know that the Cowboys hadn't already made up their mind that Lucky was gone. They likely just needed him as a camp and PS game body and knew he was going to be cut. When this came out they probably just said, let's go ahead and do it.

I do understand that a large portion of the sports fan population thinks it was terrible and want to crucify the team for it (PR)... but that doesn't make it the right way to think. Particularly if what some are saying is true (that he has a connection to the shop lifting and "dognapping" along with several other things).

I wouldn't put up with that from a guy who is going to be cut anyway. From Zeke? Yes. From Dez? Yes. From Whitehead? No.

Because they didn't believe him. If you don't believe somebody then why put up with him? The guy has a history of slacking off. Whether he did or did not commit this crime is irrelevant. It was just one more distraction that the Cowboys didn't need. Best to move on now. If this was the first time this happened to a player and he had no history then I'd agree with you.
