Luepke is not a great blocker, but appears to be a quality runner and receiver. Schoonmaker is a great blocker with questions about what he can contribute as a receiver. Would be interesting if Luepke proves to be a fullback find in the mold of Green Bay's John Kuhn if we'd run more 1FB-1TE sets with Schoonmaker serving as more of an inline tight end and Leupke being a threat coming out of the backfield.

Of course, we're talking about a UDFA fullback and those haven't fared well in camp for years now. It's just an interesting alternative to two-tight end sets for me, especially since we don't have an established starting TE.

No one has questions if he can contribute as a receiver. Is he Travis Kelce? No- but the dude can run and catch. Shultz just sat down in zones, it’s not like he was dunking on people. Not that hard to replace

Schoonmaker's receiving ability is not a question mark.

Actually what I was thinking the day after is that Schoonmaker might be the Hback a fair number of times. Sorta makes the pick a tad better because he can be used in an area they seem to value more than other teams.

This thought has crossed my mind. It's gonna be interesting what they do with those two players in particular.

Schoonmaker is good at getting open and very fluid.

He’s ridiculously good at getting in windows.

But for such a good athlete he does nothing after the catch. Like 0 unless he’s just in tons of space.

He didn't have great production, so yes, it is. His measurables are not a question mark.

Where did this come from?????

Because that simply isn't true.

In fact, his scouting report is the exact opposite of that.
Schoonmaker has low receiving production compared to the other top tight ends in this draft. And his blocking has been praised by multiple reports, the team, etc.

Cons of Schoonmaker's Game

Schoonmaker is a limited athlete and lacks a high ceiling as a pass catcher. He’s not a polished route runner, isn’t dynamic with the ball in his hands and doesn’t have the long speed to win vertically down the field.

He’s not the type of tight end who will worry defensive coordinators or challenge defenses.
NEGATIVES

— Did not show much ability to win the ball in traffic.

— Below-average play strength as a pass-catcher. Can be bullied off his routes and get hemmed up at the top of routes.

— Below-average route-runner. Lacks nuance and snappiness at the top of his routes.

— Late-bloomer with very limited production prior to senior season.
I'm hopeful the questions about him as a receiver have more to do with the offensive around him. Some teams don't use their tight end as a receiver as much as others.

Unless he gets better at blocking I don’t see him being on the team.
He’s pretty solid as a pass blocker, not so much as an in-line blocker. But he wasn’t asked to do it that much it appears

I posted a couple of analysis about his receiving ability. I could post many more. He did not have near the production of the other top TEs in this draft, other than Washington, and there were also questions about his receiving. Both have potential, but they do not have the production.

You shoukd make these trolls support their lies. Where is the proof?
The biggest thing that worries me is he had a total of 637 yards in his ENTIRE college career with 7 TD's. Not exactly super productive BUT I am not sure Michigan was a power passing program. Don't love that and felt I'd rather have a stud Guard with that #2 pick but I am hopeful he will be as good as Schultz + better blocking. May well be worth it!

Dont change the narrative to production. Watch the tape. He can make plays and did.
