Schoonmaker is good at getting open and very fluid.

He’s ridiculously good at getting in windows.

But for such a good athlete he does nothing after the catch. Like 0 unless he’s just in tons of space.
I thought you said athletic testing was everything?

So because moore couldnt use a supposed similar type back this guy sucks?
Moore could not used a supposed similar type back .. because blocking was not that similar type back's strong suit.

What area are we trying to " upgrade " ? ... Blocking.

What was the purpose of get rid of Schultz's pathetic blocking ?

We are trying to become more physical ...not more passive.

Its all projected maybes. Hes 25. And i dont think he broke a single tackle on film lol. Elite athletes break tackles
So youve convinced yourself the pick sucks and all the facts that contradict your emotional take you just change the subject?

Fyi….i agree he doesnt break many tackles.

And you expect him to be what? Kelce? Lol

Its not emotional i believe what i see. He never flashed any of these proclamations ur makin. He played 5 years in college and has 600 yards receiving. I said vander trash sucked against inside runs and gets blocked too easily when he was coming out. Thats exactly who he is today

It’s about scheme and fit. Cowboys wanted a complete te. most of these tes are slotted off pass catching stats.

the point is he’s very athletic and can pass catch.
Dude posted a couple reports on page one that say he's not a good route runner. One mentions him being bullied off his routes and getting hemmed up at the top of routes. That's not a scheme issue nor a knock on his production.

Personally, I'm waiting and seeing but there are plenty of pre-draft reports ranking him much lower than where they took him. Just thought it was funny you're seemingly defending the pick by posting a report that had him with a 4th round grade. Hope he's not the next Escobar.

So why are you basing your opinion off of production? This was a power running offense.
Production is always part of the picture. We've seen players who have won the underwear olympics in plenty of years and then done nothing in the pros. Judging prospects is part measurables and part production. Ideally, you don't want a player who falls short in either, but generally after the first round, the players available either fall short in one or the other. He will get the chance to prove whether it was the system, the QB, etc., that caused him not to produce compared to other tight ends. The measurables are there for him to be more than what he showed at Michigan. We'll see how he does.

My point with this thread is because the questions about him have to do with receiving, if he is more of a blocking tight end than a receiver and Luepke is more of a receiving fullback than a blocker, then that combination could be interesting together. Not that I know if Luepke will even make the team or Schoonmaker will end up beating out Ferguson and Hendershot for playing time.

I didn't mean to make those who feel defensive about Schoonmaker think I was slighting him. I don't know how good or bad he'll be. I just know the knock against him concerns receiving because of the production numbers. We'll see if it means anything concerning his play or just means that we got a nice all-around tight end because Michigan didn't use him in the passing game as much as he deserved.

This is not a case where he was the 4th option on a stacked offense. We was the 2nd option on a Marty Shottenheimer style offense. That means in practice and preparation he got the reps and coaching like the second option.

Would have preferred an o-lineman or a DB with that pick.

But we'll see. I've been down on Cowboys picks before and they've surprised.

At last we appear to have an expert on the Wolverines. Could you let us know what scheme's they played and what his designated functions were in that scheme?

The similarity between: SCHOONMAKER, MAZI and TYLER (from last year) is that our scouting team appear to have identified aspects that could be improved upon or weren't developed or utilized in college as it didnt fit the scheme they were playing.

All these experts appear to ignore Schoonmaker's TE slant receptions....I suppose whilst it suits Dak and our scheme, it's not highlight reel up the seem, though scouting reports indicate that he may well have that in his arsenal (not needed at Michigan).

Yea, but Avila and Bergeron were gone and in McClay's opinion (presumably supported by MM) Torrence just doesnt fit in with what we're trying to do.
