What happenend to the best run blocking TE in the draft? I know he needs more reps, Prescott can't even find Fereguson

One fan I’ve argued with about Schoonmaker claims he’s pleased with him.

Would have been nice to have drafted a Sam LaPorta, but the run on TEs left us with Schoonmaker.

We can only hope it’s the plantar fasciitis that’s caused him to be so disappointing. However, he dropped what should’ve been a TD earlier in the season. The grades on him as a receiver coming out of college weren’t very good. Can’t understand why we would use a second round pick on a TE who doesn’t have good receiving skills.

Because MM believed he could fast track his scheme and reached for a player he thought would be an earlier contributor in his offense.
Schoon was a reach because of the other TEs taken before him.
Hindsight is always 20/20 as the saying goes, and there were OL and RBs available there that could be at least contributing.

I didn't like the pick, thought he went a rd higher based on the projections, but fans already calling him a bust is way premature. First, he missed the majority of the offseason, also the position has a steep learning curve. People tend to forget it took Shultz several years to make a sort of impact and he had Witten to help with his development.

It's too early in Schoon's career to nitpick over his limitations. It takes time for many players to develop greatness. It's early yet. Try being patient.

I didn't like the pick, thought he went a rd higher based on the projections, but fans already calling him a bust is way premature. First, he missed the majority of the offseason, also the position has a steep learning curve. People tend to forget it took Shultz several years to make a sort of impact and he had Witten to help with his development.

I wonder whether the primary attraction was: potential or that blocking option that assists the less than physical running game?

The Cowboys were interested in Sam LaPorta, and entering last week he was second in the league in yardage for TEs. We settled for what was left and got burned.

Burned so you're saying that it's over for Luke that the pic is a total bust even though he hasn't got a lot of playing time you don't know what he's gonna develop into later so you guys with the exaggeration just never ever surprise me but I keep getting more surprised you think everyone's a bust if somehow by mid season of their rookie years they haven't got on the field and played very much well I saw Randy white play special teams his first two years didn't have a position his third year became the manster they found a position for him they found an actual spot that wasn't already occupied by what they thought was a better player that happens in the NFL you know it's called development he has to wait his turn and sometimes it takes some players longer to adjust in the NFL than others but any of you saying we got burned are you people just really seriously on some kind of really really bad medication.....

And to the OP thanks for starting a otherwise ridiculous and means nothing to lukes career right now if three years from now he's still not done anything we can have this conversation.,.... I'm more disappointed than hendershot I saw more in him and thought he would do a lot better and he hasn't he's been dropping balls just disappearing and practice now allegedly injured but I want to question that because I don't remember him getting injured and now he's sat down...

Again I gave these players at least three seasons to find their place in the NFL and see if they were worth their draft status but I've seen far worse bus in the first round especially in the top 10...

Yeah the overreactions and calling people busts six games into their rookie campaigns is ridiculous... Saying the Cowboys got burned that that's the best one I may have to put him on ignore soon but he hasn't annoyed me enough and I believe there might be a limit and I've already got about 14 people on that list

qb was udfa and qb's primes last longer. the uproar is due to grabbing an older guy (who still needs development) with a premium pick at a position that has one of the steeper learning curves and transition rates. i think it's overblown, but i get it.
