I like malcom brown but just going off the last two years of Marinelli and Steven and Jerry all saying you don't draft a 1 tech in the 1st round. Also Jerry and Steven have been saying for years 1st round picks are starters. I don't see them putting a rookie over crawford at the 3.
Also we need a pass rush more than a 1 tech. The 1 tech is the least important position on the line in this scheme. That's why they don't value it.
The 3 tech is one of the most important but again crawford has been pretty good.
I think they will bring in Paea to feel the 1 pkus a rotation. Marinelli loved him in Chicago.
26. Malcom BrownTexas Longhorns (Grade: 87)*
6-foot-3, 317 pounds
Brown is an underclassman, but I think he'll be selected within the top 50 picks if he leaves school after this season. He's a 320-pounder with an impressive combination of quickness and power who plays all along the line of scrimmage for the Longhorns. He's versatile, very disruptive and has a good motor.
The team can say anything they like, it doesn't mean they won't do something completely different.
They weren't planning on keeping three QBs on the 53 this year, yet Dustin Vaughan made it happen.
Malcom Brown is a NT, he could play some UT, but the nose would be his home.
He might not open the season as a starter there, but I wouldn't bet against him.
Tyrone Crawford would start at UT, DeMarcus Lawrence at one of the ends and the other end is to be determined.
I believe the NT is hugely important in this scheme.
It's not that Rod Marinelli doesn't value the spot, he just feels you can get two down players later in the draft and use your premium picks on three down players.
Having a NT that can generate a real push when single blocked and stand up to double teams, even encourage them, is one of the things we need the most.
Nick Hayden has been better this year playing fewer snaps, but we can do so much better.
Getting a good player here will change the way offenses play our defense.
That's why I'm willing to add Malcom Brown in round two.
I'm excited about this guy.
Tyrone Crawford moved to UT on the fly this year while coming off an Achilles tear.
I hope he's just scratching the surface.
We'll figure out the depth behind TC, we need to get starting help around him.
Good idea worth investigating.
But dallas has lived by that the last year's and has shown it. They had chances to take a good 1 tech early and passed both times.
Also I think Jerry Steven and Rob all value DE pass rushers over a 1 tech. So given the choice they would take Orchard over Brown.

Orchard is a beast and I would love for dallas to draft him. We need pass rush and brown might be good but he isn't a true pass rusher.
I think Brown is a day 1 starter at 1 Tech
I like Orchard, but I think he might be better in a 3-4 as a OLB than as a true DE. I say this as a Ute alumni.
I'm just not going to rule it out.
Upgrading the edge rush is the priority and I hope something is done to that effect during free agency.
If we add a free agent DE and our preferred targets are off the board when our first round selection comes up, trading down into early round two would be an option.
Malcom Brown might be pretty enticing if he was still available in this scenario.
Getting better rush from our DEs next year will help Tyrone Crawford and the NT on the inside.
If we have a better NT, a player who can consistently win against single blocks and absorb double teams without losing ground, that will also help the rest of the DL.
Brown is absurdly productive for a NT.
SilverBear posted his stats on another board, 132 tackles including 8.5 sacks and 26 TFLs in 25 games as a starter the past two seasons.
That is a two year Production Ratio (Sacks + TFLs / games played) of 1.38.
Anything above 1.0 is considered an indication of elite talent at DT, it raises to 1.5 for DEs, which Brown came close to.
sorry guys but Malcom brown will move up as the draft approaches and wont be available in the late 20s,
Hopefully, something gets done in free agency to improve the edge rush.
I'd still be open to drafting a DE early, the free agent might be a short term addition and DeMarcus Lawrence is a question mark at this point.
I know about Rod Marinelli's feelings regarding NTs, that you can wait until later in the draft and still find them.
Maybe Ken Bishop will prove that, his first NFL off-season should do wonders and Josh Brent will also return next year.
But I'm open to the idea of trading down into round two for Malcom Brown if our preferred targets are off the board when we get on the clock in round one.
Maybe he'll rise too high for that, who the hell knows at this point.
