Madden 09: Quarterbacks

The return of all-time greats to the Madden franchise will finally allow us to see how the Bradys, Mannings, and (gulp) the Grossmans of today compare with players who defined the position. You can even check out how close the rookies are to becoming NFL ready. Who got inflated ratings and who got the shaft? Let us know what you think!

The list below largely speaks for itself but we will point out a few of the surprises. The first has to be Brady's arm strength (99). His arm strength is now the highest of any player in the game, active or otherwise. Another year of Michael Vick behind bars has resulted in a Vince Young repeat as the fastest quarterback in the game (though Tarvaris Jackson and newcomer Josh Johnson gave him a run for his money).

Check back in over the next few weeks as SportsGamer will be breaking down ratings for every position culminating with the release of the full Madden playbooks. Also be sure to stop by our forums and share your opinions on the quarterback rankings or leave us specific requests and we'll try to get the answers!

Can't argue anything against Brady, he earned those stats. He done everything last year and deserves to be the #1 QB. Romo should be as good as Palmer this year though and he should def. be better than Ben Roethlisberger.

I disagree with Brady having the strongest arm in the league. I seriously doubt that his arm is as strong as Peyton Mannings, to be quite honest.

I don't really have a problem with any of the other ratings besides that. There are some things that really are probably a bit inflated but that's how it goes.

I don't think Manning has as strong an arm as Brady, but I thought accuracy would be thing Brady got 100 for.

No way Brady has a 99 throwing power rating. Try again Madden.

How about Staubach or Aikman being in the all-time greats list?

I'm surprised they didn't give Brady a 100 rating.

Here's Romo's #'s, since that's all anyone really cares about anyway:

Overall: 94
Speed: 78
Awareness: 80
Throw Power: 90
Throw Accuracy: 96

He's tied for 4th best QB ranking overall with Drew Brees, although Brady and Manning are both 99. (Palmer, Roethlisburger are the other two ranked higher)

So no Johnny Unitas or Roger Staubach in the all-time greats list? Montana with a 95 in throwing power? Benny Friedman with a 99 overall?

Total waste of time reading it. :bang2:

I think Drew Brees is the guy to watch this year. He did absolutely NOTHING the first 5 games last year and by years end, had great numbers . . .

Saints gonna win some games.

I think there should be a few players with higher arm strengths than brady who are still playing. All time, the list would be pretty long.

Then again, its just a game and who really cares. I suppose if you are a gamer, this would be another reason why Madden has gone down the tubes. They may as well just use a random generator.

Carson Palmer is just today's version of Jeff George. Palmer is a joke and would not make a scab off of Ben (or Tony's) elbows. He is a waste of time just like those so called sports writers who predict the Bengals to be good every year.

Montana's strength was the short pass. To rate his arm strength at 95 is wishful thinking.

George had all the tools except for a head to put it all together. Palmer has all the tools but no one on his team that will help him put it together. Put any top tier QBs in his position and they all won't do much better.

Carson Palmer is overrated in my opinion. he has 2 number 1 receivers and still can't get it done.

It don't matter the shorted Romo where it counts and that;s awareness. His vision cone gonna be so small it's ridic.

I disagree. Romo throws too many INTs for his awr to be much higher than it is. If he could lower his INT number, hiw awr rating would go up. As it is right now, I'd say it's fairly accurate.

If you're even half decent at Madden, 80 awareness is plenty.

If by "get it done" you mean having postseason success, then the Bengals defense has a lot to do with that.

Palmer is easily a Top 5 QB in this league.
