Brett Maher is proof that the NFL gives up to quick on kickers ......... man worked on his craft and is clutch as hell now.
I'd say on other positions as well but it is funny though I'm reminded by this when I see Nick Folk kick....how many kickers ago was Nick Folk? Thought his career was over when he left Dallas.

Makes you wonder what happened to that one kicker from Tampa Bay? Was he a 1st rounder? I'd love to be there when he gets it together.

Maher was a joke when we drafted him. Never would I ever have imagined him being this reliable

Dallas didn't draft him. The Cowboys weren't even his first NFL team. The Jets signed him as an UDFA. They then cut him in training camp. Dallas then brought him in while Bailey was recovering from injury. That was was back in 2013. He didn't get his first regular season action until 2018 with Dallas. He is 33 now. No one imagined he would be this reliable.

Wow, I could've sworn we drafted Maher with a 5th pick

What choice is there for teams? Are they supposed to stick with a guy who isn't converting field goal attempts? How much time should teams give a guy? Maher has been around since 2013 and actually kicking in games since 2018. In essence, Dallas didn't give up on him. They have brought him in a few times to compete. Tough choices often have to be made.

Literally...Nick Folk who made a pro-bowl for us in 2007 has an NFL record *64 consecutive* made field goals under 50 yards
