The way they tested players for concussions back in the old days was by having them count fingers. If they guessed the right number they were cleared and back in the game. When Troy Aikman suffered a concussion in the 1993 NFC title game he said he wasn’t right for the Super Bowl and had there been a concussion protocol then he wouldn’t have been cleared.
