Mailbag: Can Davis be the Answer at RB

Considering Pollard went down and Davis was not used in a do or die game at all should tell you everything you need to know.
Tells me more about the idiocy of the coaching staff rather than Davis' shortcomings. Running an old, slow, lumbering rb rather than a faster, shifty young blood tells me they got what they deserved. But need to get another young RB in the draft this month.

How could we know. Most of these coaches just go with what they are used to because it's safe. Zeke wasn't going to have a mental breakdown out there and we have no clue what Davis can do. And i'll never understand why these coaches do not have a plan on how to use every single player that dresses on game day. They should have had at least a hand full of plays for Davis based on what he does well and be willing to use them.
JG before him and than Moore. Those guys don’t play backups unless someone is injured.

Your reading comprehension is off, again.
As I stated, I don't think Davis is the answer.
But as I also stated, chap, Davis has rarely been seen by you or us, but of course the experts like you have come to bury him.
31 other teams also have not gone after many players. So
I think you should heed your own advice on reading comprehension. that much is painfully obvious

You or I don’t need to see him. you are I don't need to approve of him (or disapprove).
People who know and make decisions have. I didn't bury anyone, although I like your line of thinking to give me credit and power to bury someone.

Evidence says he is not good enough. (do you need to be in the forest to confirm when a tree falls, it makes loud noise?).
Another couple of UDFA or draft pick and he be back to PS or cut. in fact there is plenty of talk about Cowboys drafting a RB. what do you think will happen to Davis if we drafted a RB?

but hey, I guess you want my approval that he is a great player. then I give it to you. do you want me to call front office and tell them to move Davis up the depth chart and let MM know I think Davis is a great player?

answer is yes and no. He alone isn't the entire answer. Running back by committee IS.

no. Davis is not the answer. he doesn't come through the Dallas doors, drink the kool aid and some how become special. he is not special. he is a 3rd stringer. needs to remain a 3rd stringer. and I liek Davis. I just don't see all the love he gets from some people. more like wishing him to be something he is not.
That's about what I've seen. A decent try hard backup type.

I really like the thought I read somewhere of the ASU RB,...he can be stolen in the draft.

Well, then, us re-signing Zeke should be a priority!
Zeke is gone because Dallas didn’t want to pay elite $$$ for an aging RB.

But Zeke can still play football.

I.e. 25 percent of his rushes were for 1st downs the last two seasons.

Egads!
I see. Sight unseen, ditch him.
But in these days when some fans pine for Zeke, believe Deek is playoff ready and when we want to sign every Tom, Rick and Terry who is released or waived, I thought you might want to give this books Davis a chance.

The stat about 25% is wild. Were any of those rushes 2 yards or fewer?
I mean, that stat could mean yardage 20 to 1 yards to go.
I am both mystified and intrigued about that self-serving stat, bloke.
Thanks!

Your line of thinking is bunk. You embarrassed yourself making the same claims about Schultz and thinking Witten was still ballin-out his last couple of dreadful seasons in Dallas.

I think there's a place for someone like Davis, even if it's not as a starter. He served the Cowboys admirably by helping to prevent Pollard from getting injured by way of being overtaxed. He's been quite effective in a backup role in the past. We'll likely see if that's destined to be repeated.

I'm no big Ronald Jones fan, but I don't think Davis is going to even be ahead of him
I think Dallas showed their draft hand a bit at 26 after we signed RJ. Tells me we aint drafting a rb early. I think rd 3 might be the sweet spot for us if we draft a guy.

RB by committee never works.

It depends what do you consider " committee"

- I think we are not gonna be a committee RB group. The guy is gonna be Pollard.
70-75% of the RB run/catch work is going thru him, imo.
- And the biggest key is how the coaches scheme and use him.

- We have to think McCaffrey, Aaron Jones, Eckler like scheme and use with him.
- We have to think " All Purpose" like
- Not the 25 carry load RB that many are more accustomed to.

- And I don't think RB addition is over yet as we figure out the " Thunder " that we will need
in short yardage, goal line spots and situations.
I don't think Pollard is special and most dangerous in that particular area.

Malik is an answer as a 3rd or 4th RB, ..he showed some short area quickness, hard run ability and special teams work.
Nothing special. but i clearly want him way ahead of Rico Dwondle.

what!? sign unseen. again, you are hung up on your own evaluation of a player. your eye test.

I go based on evidence. if it walks like a duck. sounds like a duck. acts like a duck. its a duck. I don't need to have him say I am duck for me to believe it.

what!!! you made zero sense.

I never claimed anything about Schultz. in fact I liked him and thought he has the skills to grow.

your cluelessness is astounding.

and now you are also tying your rope to Davis's anchor. are you ready to sink? are you willing to stand behind it that you think there is something in Davis? what's with all the Davis love? it looks like some of you all just want to argue about a non-issue for the sake of arguing. I must have gotten on your nerves at some point, given you just jumped in the middle of a nothing burger and making meaninless ireelevant comments.
