Mailbag: What Does Frederick Pick Mean For Costa, Guards?

With the Cowboys using their first pick on center Frederick, what does that mean for Phil Costa? Will he be the center if healthy and Frederick to one of the Guard spots, or is Costa able to move to one of the guard spots while Frederick mans the center position?

Bryan: I believe they are going to try and play Frederick at center first and let him compete with Costa. If he beats him out then that’s OK in my book. I believe they are committed to making this work with Bernadeau and Livings going into camp with both being healthy.

Rowan: I don’t see Costa starting at one of the guard spots next year. I think Frederick would be more likely to make the switch, but at least to start out it seems like Frederick will play center. It should make for a healthy competition at center and both guard spots with Mackenzy Bernadeau and Nate Livings. Eventually, the three best players should find the field among those four, along with Ronald Leary.

Get what? The fans don't get that 4 out 5 O-line starters were injured (Plus backups) and therefore last year was a bad gauge for determining what we have...:laugh2:

Right, because Livings has been a consistent and solid player his entire career and Bernadeau is a proven starter.

I hope that Costa doesn't automatically lose out in the competition due to Frederick being a 1st rd selection. I still believe Costa will be a good center if he can stay healthy.

I'd rather have Costa at center and Frederick at one of the guard spots over Livings/Bernadeau at both guard spots. I can't wait until those retreads are gone.

I would say it means a lot worse things for guys like Arkin and Kowalski. With only 6 interior line spots I can easily see both ending up camp casualties. Frederick, Costa, Cook,.Livings, Bernadeau, and Leary seem to be the obvious choices.

And no way we should feel good about that to the 2 guys above me. There is a serious lack of talent there, no amount of playing time together is going to help that.

I believe the line might look like this..

Smith, Leary, Costa, Frederick, Free/Parnell.

We are talking about the same Livings and Bernedeau right? they both could be cut and replaced with wood pegs, probably be a little bit of improvement

I would prefer to give Livings 3.4M base salary to Brandon Moore (FA, Jets).

They were playing INJURED kiddies......

Dallas Cowboys starting right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau underwent surgery on his right shoulder.

"But, obviously, we paid Bernadeau and [guard Nate] Livings. They had to move around and weren't healthy a lot of the year."

Do we need to quote multiple articles?

Hard to believe some Cowboys fans don't want to see Frederick at center! It's not that I dont think he will be great at either position, but it appears he will be the best Center this franchise has had in my time Day 1(only 26). Frederick's starting either way. Let Costa battle it out with Bernadeau and Leary. Not like we didn't give him a shot.

Jerry loves those type of fans. Some people still buy into his spin.

I'd like to line Frederick up beside Tyron---create a dominate side.
