Just to play devils advocate, any player given a contract for less than three years is not seen as the long term solution. Now if you barely have the desire to play football, but it's the most lucrative thing you are qualified to do, and you know the team doesn't have plans for you; would you work your *** off? No you probably wouldn't because you know somebody needs a physical presence in the middle and you have a job as long as that is true. This guy never wanted to work that hard and have big expectations. That's why he retired so he could have it this way, as a mercenary paid to punch a clock, not a corner stone franchise player.
And that's ok with me because not everybody with franchise talent is cut out for all that extra crap/responsibility. Guy seems like a quiet dude, probably hates that his name is in our mouths in the first place probably just wants to be left alone. I think organizationally everybody knows the score with this guy and his replacement is already on the roster. He'll have a pretty good year and will end up in Cincinnati New England or Oakland is my prediction.
