You have a good corner that has played 98% of the defensive snaps all season. Then you say he wasn't the best matchup option for you to win? Sounds like a head coach with an ego too large for the organization. I don't doubt Belichek is an excellent coach, but sometimes it's best to move on when the HC thinks he's bigger than the organization. I don't care how many Superbowls you've won. That's crazy! Maybe there's more going on than what's been said.

Pride can be a bad thing. He needed to put the team first.

Wouldn't be surprised if he went out late and missed curfew or something. They didn't lose because Butler didn't play.

Belechek never talks about discipline. He leaves it to the media to read between the lines. Butler starts every game since week 2, but gets benched for the super bowl as a healthy scratch? It makes no sense. Obviously, he broke a team rule.

Yeah, there is more to the story. I would put money on him coming in late, sleeping or talking back. Belichick has a process and if a player does chooses not to follow the process then they are eliminated.

I thought Eric Rowe was the weak link, I thought that Butler would replace him at some point during the first half when Stephon started following Alshon.

Belichick has dominated, why second guess him now?

maybe Butler's ego got in the way.
I give Belichick the benefit of the doubt here.
Didnt cost them the game,tho.
Pats didnt make plays when they had the chance, other guys did.

Butler didn't win them the SB technically. Bellichek and Ernie Sims told Butler to specifically watch out for that play and to jump the route as the second corner no matter what, if they see the two WRs bunched up like that in goal-line formation..

Maybe the eagles don't score 41 if Gilmore would have shadowed Jeffery from the beginning and Butler started over Rowe. Worked better than that all season.

I don't give Belichek a pass cause he's won previously. It's the Superbowl. You never know if you'll get back there again. Who knows what happened. I read Butler showed up a day late cause he was in the hospital. I have to believe there is more to it than that. It wasn't the total reason they lost. They couldn't put any pressure on Foles. They also didn't blitz much. Is this because of lack of confidence in the secondary? Hell....they gave up 44 points! Yeah...I'll second guess that decision. It it's discipline, sit him a quarter. But the whole game? Naww!

Speaking of Jeffery, what a steal they got. If I was a Bears fan I would be disgusted they let him go.

I remember him abusing us when CHicago played with us and I was in awe of his hands. WHen he was a free agent, I was like man, I wish we could get him.

He almost made the one-handed grab on the INT which he knocked up accidentally when falling. If he completed that, it would have been a lot larger a lead. It's not like Rowe didn't have good position on him. Patriots pretty much started locking down the run and Pederson adjusted with a bunch of the passes to the RB on those flares and hitting the TE to keep the chains moving.
