Maliek Collins

Remember Collins had a very similar injury to what Dez had last year, which means he is still not back to full mobility with that foot. Shoe designs are providing protection and support, rest assure his repaired foot is providing feedback every game. This year may pale in comparison to what he can really provide with two good feet that he can plant and pivot.
Fingers crossed for Tapper, rest is the key for that back to heal fully which it never had in the past. This kind of season should make rehab an easy endeavor for both Tapper and Hanna the sooner boys.
I agree with the assessment that this draft is loaded with edge talent, safety, and RB depth. We know from experience a rookie DE provides little contribution until second and third year experience kick in during games. I think we should plan on a FA DE and resigning Lawrence to fix the leaking dam while drafting suitable replacements in a couple of years.

I think that I would work on trading Tony Romo to the top of next year's draft, and high enough to get the top defensive end available in the draft...

Any chance of Romo having trade value will be dependent on him playing this year and showing he can take hits.

I have a feeling the Cowboys try and move up in this draft and I'm not quite sure that's the right move no matter what our record is.

Trouble is the 2000 draft thingy didn't work (well) either. The first two guys crapped out quickly and it was the later guy who later provided some value but not a lot.

I've not seen a lot of cases where "saturation" drafts work.

I think it still goes back to the "winning" formula of getting the most value you can out of each pick. And the Cowboys did that this past draft... And there shouldn't be any quibbling wit the results.

You've got several positions that will/need attention DE, CB, S, WR, LB, OG, OT.

I say you pick the highest value guy you can get in each round and if the first 3 draft picks are a WR, CB, DE, then so be it.

That being said I'm sure you're going to see at least 1 DE drafted and a middle-of-the-road free-agent DE picked up... Though not high enough to blow the
compensatory pick the team will get for Leary.

Well that was the point of my post. I keep seeing people say draft all these DEs, the point was the draft just doesn't work like that at all.

We are saying the same thing, we have alot of needs, no reason to go nuts on one position group. After Bosa went, we didn't reach for the next best rated DE last year, got Zeke. After Cook went, we didn't reach for the next best rated QB, got Tapper. After Ogbah went, we didn't just reach for the next best DE, got Jaylon.

The draft is about value, not need. Just got tired of seeing so many people say differently here.

I'd think that's the kid out of A&M and I'd think getting that high is impossible. Just my impression.

Naw, Jerry will have them video a Cowboys defensive player hitting Romo a few time this off-season. If the negotiations are stalled, Jerry will reach for his Bat phone and request more hits on Romo.

Yeah Garrett will probably go in the top 3. We would have to do a Ricky Williams trade to get him, don't think that will happen at all. Its a premium position, but its still not worth a whole draft.

So you only paid attention to the sexy names? Collins figured where he was drafted. He wasn't an unknown.

Yes, that's what mock draft fever is for me. Getting hung up on the same players and then dissappointed when we go elsewhere. Why is this difficult for you. I'm fully admitting I didn't know him and am feeling foolish (and happy ) about it.

I guess I could opt to act like he sucks because I was wrong about him and hype another pet cat that hasn't looked nearly as good to save face, but now that would be petty, right?

Too right. I'm about getting a good draft together and hoping the team stays hot and attracts some older vets to come in and play a role for the next couple of years. I'm going to keep saying it until he isn't available but Peppers would help this defensive rotation a ton despite age.

DT's tend to develope slower than many positions. Many got by on athletic ability in college and everyone is a great athlete at this level. Collins will get stronger and smarter and could be a good player

I can't consign this. We need a good corner round 2. I'd get the second DE with the 4th rounder

I'm fine with CB/DE in rds 1 & 2, in any order. I believe the 2nd DE needs to come via free agency. This team needs immediate help at DE. Even if it's an older veteran for 2 years. This defense needs someone proven they can pencil in for 8 sacks to add to the group of younger DEs.

I really like Collins and Irving! Those young beasts have a chance to be special.

I think he's going to be a good one. We might have gotten lucky that Nebraska started two gapping him his last year in school. His sophmore year he had 4.5 sacks and 13 tackles for a loss when he was 1 gapping more. He was also playing beside Randy I think, but he's much better in this role.

Also shoutout to Lawrence. 9 pressures last night. Guy's been "limited" in every single practice this year but 9 pressures is incredible.
