$10,000 Note = Salmon P. Chase

Small world time, James Madison University is 20 minutes from my front door... I would never have guessed Salmon P. Chase for the 10k note, can't for the life of me figure out why they picked him...

Wow, this is the one guy on a federal note I've never heard of. From wikipedia:

This I'm not sure. I thought that a few old bills were still in circulation, but no new ones. It'd be interesting to look up, if you could find info on this.

They are not making the 5k or 10k bills anymore. They still are legal tender to spend. Most people only collect them now.

Ive seen some 10k bills selling for 50-60k each. We are talking 1940 stuff tho.
