Manuel Johnson picked at #229

Johnson was a #2 at OU and had to share the ball with Malcolm Kelly, Iglesias, Gresham, Murray during his time. Plus, he had a banged up elbow last year that cut his playing time. With that said, Johnson is a solid, dependable WR and should beat out Stanbeck (a non WR), Hurd, Austin and Amendola. Travis Wilson (another Sooner) has some experience and looks to be the 3rd WR. My prediction on the WR depth is Roy Williams, Crayton, Wilson, Johnson, Hurd.

Amendola?

Are you sure you are a Cowboy fan?

:lmao2:

That was the most ridiculous OU homer post ever...

I actually like the Johnson pick. I believe the guy is going to be better than a lot of guys think. I think he was pretty under-rated at OU.

No. Not a fan. I live here and follow (albeit not very closely) the team and OU players.

sez the tu homer.

Not exactly. The only UT players I wanted us to take were Roy Miller in the 4th or 5th b/c we're thin at DT and he could've definitely helped... he ended up going in the 3rd... and Quan Cosby. I actually said in this thread that Manny Johnson is pretty good. But I'm not the one who's going around saying that 2 late-round OU receivers are going to unseat Miles Austin who we put a 2nd round tender on and expect to be our #2 receiver. Sorry, but your prediction is absolutely ridiculous.

Austin better worry about staying healthy and being able to actually beat out Patrick Crayton for the first time in his career, not what Johnson is doing.

I'm sure Austin welcomes your suggestion. Somehow, I really doubt he gives a crap what Johnson or any other receiver we would've drafted in the 7th round is doing.

Given the fact that Manny was lighting everyone up last year before the elbow injury, Id say hes got a good shot to knock off all of the above except Austin...Guy is gonna suprise alot of people (I hope)

If he does, then that would be a cherry on top of a solid draft. Can you explain your buddy's prediction that Travis Wilson is going to be our #3 receiver...

Cosby's stats:

2005: 15 rec., 270 yds, 18.0 ypc, 2 TD
2006: 45 rec., 525 yds, 11.7 ypc, 2 TD
2007: 60 rec., 689 yds, 11.3 ypc, 5 TD
2008: 92 rec., 1123 yds, 12.2 ypc, 10 TD

Johnson's stats:

2005: 10 rec., 170 yds, 17.0 ypc, 1 TD
2006: 36 rec., 378 yds, 10.5 ypc, 3 TD
2007: 31 rec., 448 yds, 14.5 ypc, 4 TD
2008: 42 rec., 714 yds, 17.0 ypc, 9 TD

Cosby was a more productive receiver. Neither is a burner; speed is about the same. Johnson has a couple inches in height, but Cosby has a stouter body. Johnson is probably a better deep threat, but Cosby is a better over-the-middle possession receiver. Neither is a great player, but I think Cosby would help us more than Johnson by lining up in the slot. I'd like to bring in Cosby as a UFA and let them fight it out in camp.

Amendola is in Philly. I agree that Stanback is probably in trouble, but Austin will be on the team.

Travis Wilson wasn't a late round receiver. He was a third round pick.
