I agree it was time to move on from Hoyer. Hoyer clearly hit his ceiling, and nobody really knows what Manziel's ceilling is.

Manziel had some disadvantages in the game on Sunday. It was Week 15 for the league, so the other team's defense is playing at full speed and the way they're used to playing. Manziel's making his first start and still figuring out how to read defenses, plus he's playing with a number of rookies - including his running backs and starting center. The line in general gave him no support and he had Bengals in his face a number of times before he could even get set to look at his options. And there were times when he hit receivers in the numbers and they simply dropped the ball.

His first series they missed a first down by less than a yard, and arguably was spotted poorly. The second series had a receiver drop a pass that would've resulted in a first down, that was right in his gut. The next time Manziel touched the ball the Browns were down 17-0. So the Bengals could pin their ears back and go after the rookie QB. His team certainly didn't help matters at all for him.

That said, Dalton completed 14/24 (58%) of his passes for 117 yards and an INT. Manziel completed 10/18 (55%) of his passes for 80 yards and 2 INTs. Dalton's statistics aren't that much better than Manziel's, considering Dalton just signed a big contract and is firmly entrenched as the starter in Cincy, and Manziel was making his first NFL start. The Bengals won 30-0, yet Dalton didn't out-perform Manziel THAT much.

And the 11 QBs below had completion percentages less than Manziel's, this weekend.

* Aaron Rodgers - 40%, 2 interceptions
* Ryan Lindley 40%, 0 interceptions
* Charlie Whitehurst - 41%, 0 interceptions
* Josh McCown - 46%, 1 interception
* Russell Wilson - 50%, 1 interception
* Tom Savage 52%, 1 interception
* Kyle Orton - 52%, 1 interception
* Andrew Luck 53%, 1 interception.
* Jay Cutler 54%, 3 interceptions.
* Jake Locker - 54%, 0 interceptions
* Blake Bortles - 56%, 1 interception

Philip Rivers and Mark Sanchez also had similar completion percentages (58% and 60%), and each threw 2 interceptions.

Given time to get used to being an NFL QB, I think Manziel can do well. But he deserves the same amount of patience that other rookie QBs like Bridgewater, Bortles, and Carr get. For now he's green, but he can turn into something if given a fair shake.
