UConn's a real beacon of integrity in college spots.

Don't know about sex scandals either. This ain't Louisville.

YR

hahah.. yeh they are...
Bernie Fine scandal is what i'm referring to... that was before the Andre McGee started making it rain for recruits at the Ville....

Never the less... Cuse is a top notch bball on the court program, and always finds a way..

sped um up by pressing VA.... forced em into bad shots....
masterful coaching by mr. magoo....

Was lucky to me Ron. I mean, Boeheim did the only thing he could do, which was press and try to force as many turnovers as possible and create as many possessions as they could in order to try and catch Virginia but I'm shocked it worked. I watched a lot of Virginia this year and they just don't do what they did last night. They never speed up the tempo and they never take bad shots or play poor defense. All the Credit in the world to Syracuse but what I saw from Virginia last night was self inflicted IMO. They didn't have to go uptempo. They could have just continued to play there game and it would have been fine. It's like they just go caught up in it all and didn't pay attention. That was weird. Guess that's why they call it March Madness.....

Congrats to Syracuse.

Richardson took over down the stretch, and he had ACC Defensive player of year Brogdon guarding him. He was taking him to the basket at will and when Brogdon played off him he was burying three pointers in his face

I'm usually hard on Cooney. I appreciate his hustle, but I don't believe that excuses bad decisions and bad execution. But, I thought he played a fine game and made key buckets when SU absolutely needed to have him. Lydon reminds me of a poor man's Laettner. Very efficient scoring wise and incredibly smart. I can't believe the number of blocked shots he gets in a game.

I couldn't have agreed with Boeheim more in the press conference after the game. The press was a big help, but he can only use it for so much and SU was fortunate to have UVA miss makeable shots. Getting away from the press in the Pittsburgh game in the ACC tournament was a bad decision (it was the only way they stopped Pitt and it was producing turnovers). But the zone is rarely the problem for SU over the years. Where they get into trouble is what Boeheim alluded to...when they are not scoring. And the change getting away from the ball screens and just driving with the ball played a larger factor. The press, somehow, tired UVA which helped. I also think UVA was getting away with fouls in the first half and they just couldn't foul SU in the last 15 minutes.

I don't know what Boeheim said to Richardson, but man...it sure worked.

I don't disagree but the up tempo didn't help that. Virginia controls tempo and clock and that gives Syracuse fewer possessions to use in order to score with. It also makes Syracuse spend time and energy defending. That helps Virginia. As I said earlier, I've watched a lot of Virginia basketball this year and really, the last two years and that was just so uncharacteristic of what they do. I was shocked to see them buy into it.

The thing that got me was how tired UVA looked, especially Parrentes. I was kind of like 'why is this guy tired, he's not pressing.' He stopped looking for his shot and when he did shoot, he threw up bricks.

He was the player that was killing Syracuse and the press tired him out and took him out of the game. If I'm a college coach, I take note of that and try to do whatever I can to speed up the tempo against UVA next season because I don't think their endurance is up to snuff.

I agree. Parrentes, and the rest of the team just looked like fish out of water. I just don't understand it Rich. I've watched them over and over these past few years and I just have never seen them do that. I mean, they are kids so I get it but it was so different then what they do. Carolina has tried, on a few occasions this year, to get them into an up and down full court game and they just won't do it. They just always play solid defenese, work for a shot and beat you with execution and defense. I could not believe that they picked, of all games, that one to try and run. I watched it and I kinda just laughed to myself thinking "Why now?"

Just watched the replay. I don't think the press made Parrentes tired. He was mostly guarding Cooney who runs all game long around the court. As they say, the hardest guy to defend is the guy that constantly moves without the ball In the 2nd half, SU switched to off-the-ball screens so Parrentes had to chase Cooney and go thru screens. He was gassed. At 5:13 left in the game they show him and he's sucking wind, gets a decent look at a 3-pointer and bricks it.

I tend to agree with Boeheim more and more after re-watching the game. The press' importance was overstated because most of the time UVA beat the press and went back to their offense, they just didn't have the same offense. On the defensive end they were tired and didn't adjust to the adjustments SU made.

Cuse getting 8.5 against UNC

I'm a UNC homer, but that 8.5 seems high.
If Carolina continues to shoot ok from the outside, then they roll. But if they shoot like they have most of the season outside, that zone could be trouble.

I agree. The thing about Syracuse is that they can play a good zone and they play multiple sets of it so they can also switch it up. Nobody has been able to play Zone against Carolina because they crash the boards so well. If Syracuse can do that and rebound, they can be tough.

That amoeba-like zone (especially the match-up version) is a bit better for rebounding than most.

But yeah, the Heels are a nightmare (or dream :)) on the boards.

They "Roll" if they shoot "Ok" from the outside???? I wouldn't say that.. I know UNC is better and all but if they merely shoot "Ok" then I think they win but not roll. I feel UNC will win the game, too many guys that score plus they got some guys who can knock down those mid range shots that so many kids these days can't do especially against the zone. Hopefully, Cuse can knock down like 15 threes :)

well, like I said, I think 8.5 points is too high
Seeing that no team has gotten nearly that close yet, I could be wrong. Just seems high for a Final 4 game.

Seems about right, I'm just banking out UNC playing well and Cuse playing well too.. In the end UNC too good.. 76-67

Btw, my (actually my 7 year son's) bracket has UNC beating Nova.
Right now it leads (As in 1st place) a pool of 746 players...in at $20 a pop
Gooooo Heels...and Nova
