Anyone else think he had a helluva game playing from the NT position?

Qualify "helluva," and I'll answer your question.

I'm not being facetious here. I'm genuinely curious about your observations.

I noticed that as well ..... maybe that is his natural position.

Helluva game as in he played well from the position. Got a good push in the passrush and played the run well. Maybe it was just Tank having a bad game in comparison, but he seemed to be more effective there than from the end.

I noticed Marcus quite a bit. Got a sack, some pressures, was very active: who knows, maybe Wade stumbled onto something there.

theo, what did you think of Free? I thought he held up pretty well, although I saw him get pushed back majorly on a run, good thing the play went to the right

Spears did record a sack, and he was a better run defender than Tank Johnson who seemed determined to overrun the play each time.

How much did he play at NT? I wasn't really paying attention.

I'll have to go back and watch him closer. I was pre-occupied once the game got out of hand.

A good bit. I noticed him playing NT more than I did DE.

Spears has had a good December. He also had a good September. I think next year they would probably be better off with a starting rotation of Canty, Fergy/Tank, and Ratliff. But Spears has played very well for half of the season and it's really gone unnoticed. As a backup he could be very effective next season.

That might not be a bad idea. Rotate him at NT and move Ratliff to DE? Spears plays the run well and seemed to rush better from the inside. Ratliff could create havoc from the DE position.

I'm pretty sure he doomed himself to being at least a part time NT next season due to his performance, poor guy. :)

Depends. If we cut Ferguson (which isn't entirely out of the question) Spears might end up with the starting NT position next year.

Nope I think Ratliff had a helluva season at NT myself. Spears should stay in a DE spot and hit the weight room hard in the off season and work on quickness.

He did. But I can't help but think Ratliff's pass-rush ability would be better used from the End spot and Spears' ability against the run doubled with his strength, rather than speed, would be better used from the NT position.

Agreed 100%, in fact, i said something to the same effect earlier.
